Dr. Anastasios S. Evgenidis
I am a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) of Economics and Finance at Royal Holloway, University of London.
Before assuming this position, I held the position of Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Economics at Newcastle University.
Prior to my time at Newcastle University, I served as an economist at the Monetary Policy Division in the Central Bank of Ireland. Before this, I worked at the Economic Analysis and Research Department at the Bank of Greece.
My research interests primarily revolve around applied macroeconomics, monetary policy, time-series analysis, classical and Bayesian VARs, and macro-finance linkages.
My research agenda has changed a lot over time. Initially, I focused on topics related to macro-financial linkages, examining subjects such as the predictive ability of yield spreads, the interplay between the yield curve and the macroeconomy, the impacts of economic and financial uncertainty shocks, and the relationship between oil price shocks and the broader economy.
Subsequently, I shifted my research direction towards empirical studies on monetary policy and its implications for the economy. I have worked on topics including the transmission of both conventional and unconventional monetary policy shocks, the connections between monetary policy and inequality, and the links between monetary policy, credit markets, asset price bubbles and global imbalances.
Currently, I continue to research these topics while also broadening my research into other areas. First, I am studying the macroeconomic effects of geopolitical risks, conflicts, and war episodes. Second, I have started working on macroeconomic consequences of extreme events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters. Additionally, I have recently started working on research in the field of AI and its influence on the macroeconomy.
