These are two different maps of the Great Lakes watershed, both serving different purposes.Â
The first shows areas of protected land and water within the lakes and watershed. It was created using lake bathymetry data from NOAA, and data on protected lands and waters from the USGS and Environment and Climate Change Canada. It features clean, simple symbology, information about the lakes, and several pins pointing out various protected areas.
The second map shows the topography and hydrography of the region. A terrain layer from the ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World was used to produce a hillshade, which is displayed atop the terrain layer. The same process was taken for the lakes to give them a textured effect. The line features which represent rivers were symbolized with a taper effect and a color gradient.
Both maps are accompanied by an illustrated border depicting wildlife that can be found in the region.
