Professor of Mathematics at Heriot-Watt University

I am a Professor of Mathematics at School of Mathematical & Computer Sciences (MACS) at Heriot-Watt University and a member of the Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Edinburgh. My research interests  lie primarily  in the areas of Mathematical Physics and Algebra.

Research Interests

I am a mathematical physicist and my research focuses on quantum & classical integrable models. More specifically, I have been working on integrable quantum spin chains and the Bethe ansatz formulation, quantum algebras, quasi-triangular Hopf algebras, braid groups, Hecke and Temperley-Lieb algebras, solutions of the Yang-Baxter and reflection equations, and their set-theoretic versions. I have also been studying classical discrete integrable systems & integrable field theories, in particular the Hamiltonian formulation, dressing methods, solitons and integrable PDEs & ODEs.

Biographical Note

I studied physics as an undergraduate at National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and I obtained my PhD in mathematical physics from University of Miami in 1999. I held postdoctoral positions at Durham University, University of York, LAPTH-Annecy & University of Bologna (1999-2007). I was assistant professor at University of Patras before joining Heriot-Watt University in 2013 as a reader. I am currently a professor of mathematics at Heriot-Watt University.
