This project is dedicated to my mother.
The first ghetto feminist I ever encountered. The woman who instilled in me a love for reading and writing as a creative practice – one I’ve never been able to shake, and which has saved my life more times than I can count.
Mammie, I am sorry it took me this long to see what an absolute feminist icon you have always been. I apologise for the empathy I couldn’t extend to you – for the times I couldn’t see past my own anger, shaped by a mainstream feminist lens that never made space for you.
I am grateful for all the feminist knowledge you passed down to me. And thank you for your words, “Calm down but stay angry”. I take these words with me as I uncover new, intersectional ways to be with and in the world.
May I always find paradise at your feet, and never stop searching for your teachings.
I see you and I gotchu for life!
