Privacy Policy for Analogy
Last updated: Oct 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Analogy mobile application ("Analogy," "the App," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use it. Analogy does not require an account, sign-up, name, email, or phone number to use — this policy describes exactly what data is involved instead.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
Analogy does not require you to create an account or log in. We do not collect:
Your name, email address, or phone number
Passwords or login credentials
Contacts, photos, location, or other personal files on your device
Payment information (the App does not process payments and contains no purchases)
2. A Device Identifier — What It Is and Why We Use It
When you first open Analogy, the App generates a random identifier stored only on your device (not linked to your name, email, or any account). This identifier is sent to our servers to:
Track your bookmarks and liked analogies so they persist between sessions
Enforce a daily limit on how many new analogies you can generate
Associate any analogy topic you generate with your device, for quality review before it's shown to other users
Associate any feedback you submit with your device, in case we need context to follow up
This identifier cannot be used by us to determine your real-world identity. If you uninstall the App or clear its data, a new identifier is generated the next time you open it, and the old one is no longer connected to your device.
3. Content You Submit
If you search for a topic that isn't already in the App and choose to generate a new analogy for it, the text you type is:
Sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the written analogy and explanation
Sent to an image generation service (Pollinations) to create an accompanying illustration
Stored on our servers, associated with your device identifier, while the content is reviewed
Once reviewed and approved, the generated analogy may be added to the App's shared content library, where it becomes visible to all users — the same as any other analogy in the App. Please don't include personal information in what you search for or type, since generated content may become part of the App's public library.
4. Feedback You Submit
If you use the "Send feedback" option in Settings, the message you type is sent to our servers along with your device identifier and, if applicable, which analogy you were viewing at the time. This helps us understand and act on your feedback. Please avoid including personal information in feedback messages, since this data is reviewed manually by our team.
5. Push Notifications
If you grant notification permission, the App registers a device token with Firebase Cloud Messaging (a Google service) and subscribes to topics matching the subject areas you've selected as interests. This lets us notify you when new content is added in those areas. You can disable notifications at any time in your device's Settings, which stops this token from being used.
6. Information Collected Automatically
Like most apps distributed through the Google Play Store, Analogy may receive limited technical information automatically as part of normal operation, such as:
Device type, operating system version, and app version
Crash logs or error reports, if the App encounters a problem
General usage data (e.g. which screens are opened), if analytics is enabled
Developer note: if Analogy uses Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or a similar SDK beyond Firebase Cloud Messaging (used for notifications, described above), list it here and in your Play Console Data Safety form. If no such SDK is in use, this section can state plainly that no analytics or crash reporting is collected.
7. App Content
Most of the analogies, explanations, and related content shown in the App are the same for all users, fetched from our content servers (hosted via Supabase). Viewing this pre-existing content does not require or transmit any personal information about you.
8. Third-Party Services
Analogy relies on third-party service providers to operate. Each receives only what it needs for its role:
Cloud hosting and database provider - hosts and delivers the app's content, and stores the device-linked data described in Sections 2–4 (bookmarks, likes, generated content, feedback).
Generative AI provider - processes the topics and search queries you submit, to generate new analogy content and to power search. We use the provider's paid service, under which submitted text is not used to improve the provider's products. The provider may keep it temporarily for abuse monitoring and legal compliance, and may process it in other countries. Please don't include personal information in what you type.
Image-generation provider - processes prompt text derived from generated content to create illustrations for new analogies.
Push notification service (Google) - delivers push notifications, if enabled.
Google Play - the app is distributed through Google Play, which may collect standard technical data as described in Google's Privacy Policy.
None of these providers receive your name, email address, phone number, or other directly identifying information from Analogy. If you'd like to know which providers we use, contact us at devteamanalogy@gmail.com.
9. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to third parties for marketing purposes. Analogy does not currently show ads. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy accordingly before doing so. Data is shared only with the service providers listed in Section 8, solely to operate the App's features.
10. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the App's content delivery infrastructure and the data described in this policy. Since Analogy does not collect your name, email, or account credentials, there is no login-based account to be compromised — but the device identifier and any content or feedback you've submitted are still stored on our servers and protected accordingly.
11. Children's Privacy
Analogy is a general-audience educational app covering a wide range of subjects, including some content organized by school grade level (such as Study Mode). It is not an app designed primarily for young children, and its broader content — covering topics like personal finance, cryptocurrency, and other adult-oriented subject matter — reflects a general audience, not a child-directed one.
That said, we recognize some of our users, particularly those using Study Mode, may be under 13. We do not knowingly collect more information from any user than described in this policy, regardless of age, and we do not use the device identifier described in Section 2 for targeted advertising or behavioral profiling of any kind — Analogy does not currently show ads (see Section 9).
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has submitted information to Analogy (such as a search query, generated content, or feedback) and you would like it removed, please contact us at the email in Section 14 with enough detail to help us locate the relevant device-linked data, and we will delete it.
12. Your Choices
Because Analogy doesn't require an account, there's no login-based profile to manage. However, since the App does store data linked to your device identifier (Section 2), you can request deletion of that data by emailing us (Section 13) — since the App doesn't currently display your device identifier anywhere in its interface, we'll work with you to confirm which device's data to delete (e.g. by cross-referencing the timing and content of a recent bookmark, generation, or feedback submission you can describe to us).
You can also manage device permissions (such as notifications) at any time in your device's Settings.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or legal requirements. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
