Caring for Handmade Leather Goods
Leather is a natural material that ages beautifully, developing a unique patina with use. With proper care, your bag or wallet can last for years while reflecting your adventures.
Tips for Care:
Storage: When not in use, stuff with a clean towel or paper and wrap in a pillowcase to maintain shape and prevent dust.
Cleaning: Wipe dirt with a damp cloth and let air dry. regular application of a small amount of quality conditioner, wax or balm.
Scratches: Buff with a soft dry cloth or shoe brush. Leather balm can reduce visibility—avoid water, which can darken leather.
Wet items: Let air dry naturally. For bags, stuff with a towel to retain shape.
Salt/chemicals: Wipe off immediately with a damp cloth, then air dry.
Oily stains: Apply cornstarch generously, leave 12–24 hours, then brush off. Works best if done quickly.
Avoid: Never use solvent-based cleaners—they strip and damage leather.
Test first: Always test conditioners or cleaners on a hidden area to check for color or texture changes.
