Tens of thousands of protesters gathered at Foley Square in Lower Manhattan on Friday, Sept. 20, demanding government action on the climate crisis and joining a global youth movement that drew an estimated 4 million at similar protests around the world.
Plans to take over the lobby of Baruch’s vertical campus on East 25th Street, and furnish it with laptops, tablets and desktops for the marathon fill-out-the-census event aimed at getting as many students as possible to fill out the census on one day, were suddenly scrapped.
At the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in El Paso’s “El Segundo” neighborhood, just blocks from the city’s main border crossing to Juarez, Mexico, the Rev. Stephen Pitts worries how parishioners are faring without the many outreach services the church has had to stop, or scale back, under the state’s coronavirus stay-at-home order.
