Here's a quick example: The Big Box stores (HD, Lowe's) currently sell primed 5 1/4" crown molding for about $4.25 per foot. Just for the material! Then it still needs to be picked up and delivered (they come in 16 ft sections), cut and installed, if you hire it out, it's typically $3-4 per foot to install. So you are looking at about $7-8 per foot or more for material and install. We charge $2.50 per foot for crown and $2 per foot to install (about $4.50 per foot total), that is over $3 a foot less than if you bought it yourself and hired someone to install it! In fact, it costs about the same just to buy the material from the big box stores than to have us provide and install it! It's a no brainer!
