The 2023 Amsterdam/Saint-Etienne Workshop on Social Choice

The Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) at the University of Amsterdam, in collaboration with the Groupe d'Analyse et de Théorie Economique (GATE) at the University of Lyon-Saint-Etienne, hosted the 1st Amsterdam/Saint-Etienne Workshop on Social Choice on 27-28 March 2023 in the historic centre of Amsterdam.

The scientific programme included invited talks by Antoinette Baujard (Saint-Etienne), Federica Ceron (Saint-Etienne), Julian Chingoma (Amsterdam), Zoé Christoff (Groningen), Federico Fioravanti (Amsterdam), Adrian Haret (Amsterdam), Frederik Van De Putte (Rotterdam), and Piotr Skowron (Warsaw). The special theme for this edition of the workshop was “methodology”. Each of the invited speakers used part of their talk to reflect on the kind of methodology they use in their research on social choice (be it axiomatic, algorithmic, information-theoretic, experimental, empirical, philosophical, or something else).

Besides the invited talks, there was an open poster session that everyone working in the field was invited to contribute to. There also was a rump session (a favourite of the computational social choice community) where any participant can give a 5-minute talk about a single idea. And of course there was plenty of time for discussion. Participation was free of charge and open to everyone.

A number of travel grants were available for eligible participants presenting a poster.

The workshop was organised by Ulle Endriss and Zoi Terzopoulou
