KUNDALINI AWAKENING  BY SWAMI

This holding of breath stimulates Kundalini to rise and travel to higher regions. There is no serpent but just a stimulation of Kundalini power, triggered by the breath retention process. When stimulated, Kundalini power gradually makes its way upwards through the 33 rings. The spine is held erect in order to facilitate this ascent of the energy of consciousness. This is the reason why yoga practitioners maintain an erect posture; such a posture improves memory power and greatly enhances the ability to concentrate. Sitting erect is thus a part of discipline.

To achieve this discipline, certain types of purification are necessary. To start with the body must be kept pure. This does not mean cleaning the body with water and a good soap; rather it means that the body must be prepared by engaging in good actions. When the mind is absorbed in good thoughts, it becomes purified. Good thoughts get translated into good actions which then purify the body. It is through such purity of thought and action that the buddhi or the power of spiritual discrimination gets strengthened. 

OUR FAMILY WITH SWAMI, OVER THE OCEAN OF SAMSARA

The human body, which is so filled with skills and so capable of great adventures, is a gift from God to each of you. It has to be used as a raft on which you can cross this never-calm sea of samsara (change) that lies between birth and death, bondage and liberation. Awaken to this primal duty even when your physical and mental faculties are keen; awaken even while your power of discrimination is sharp. Do not postpone the launching of the raft, for it may become unserviceable soon. It may be burdened with illness so that all your attention will have to be spent on its upkeep. Think of the incomparable joy that will surge within you when you approach the shore of liberation!

Ride safely on the raging waters of samsara (worldly life). Be a witness, do not crave the fruit of action and leave the consequences of all acts to God’s Will. He is the doer, you are but the instrument. Pursue nobler ends and have grander ideals. Sensory pleasures are trinkets and trivialities. The sages have discovered the disciplines that will keep you unaffected by defeat or victory, loss or gain. Learn them and practise them, and establish yourself in unruffled peace. SSS.

Sathya Sai Baba is God, So are You. He was born in 1926 and named Sathya Narayana Raju.

In childhood, He was liked by everyone, because He was always kind, forgiving all offences from playmates, never “requiting evil with evil” and more… in school, He entertained other pupils by giving them sweets, which He took out from an apparently empty bag, materializing them. At the age of 14, He told His parents that He would not go to school any more, because He knew everything. And that He was a reincarnation of the well-known Muslim saint, Sai Baba (Baba means Mother and Father), from the place called Shirdi. And that He wanted to leave His parents’ home in order to dedicate His life to helping people, preaching the Truth about God and about the Way of attainment of the Highest Freedom in Mergence with Him.

He did this even during His school years: He materialized sweets, pencils, rulers, and so on. He also won easily in running among other pupils by transporting instantly His body from the start to the finish. In the following years, He converted adult atheists to believers, for example, by materializing in front of them, sitting at the table, the dishes which were “ordered” mentally by each one of them. And now, materialization of various objects is a part of everyday activity of Sathya Sai Baba, by which He helps people to strengthen their religiousness.

As the preaching activity of Sathya Sai Baba developed, a group of faithful followers gathered around Him; an ashram was built, in which pilgrims could stay.  Thanks to Sathya Sai Baba, He has made available books and films in all continents. He has millions of followers.He brings to people salvation from the darkness of atheistic ignorance and religious misunderstanding.

Where there is love, there is no room for hatred. Do not be envious of anyone. When this evil quality appears, love takes to flight. A pure heart is the abode of love. Where there is purity, there is unity. Unity leads to divinity.

Today, purity is absent. How, then, do you realize Divinity? You must offer everything to God without any desire. Dedicate your all to God. This was the teaching of Jesus. He considered everything as an offering to God. When he was being nailed on the cross, people around were weeping. At that moment,an ethereal voice declared, "All are one, My dear Son! Be alike to everyone."

Jesus declared, "Death is the dress of life." Just as we change our clothes, so we change our bodies. The bodies are vestures (for the indwelling Spirit). Hence, bodies should be regarded as mere vestures. We should not worry about the body. How many heed such sayings? You must learn to lead ideal lives. That is the right way to observe Christ's birthday. Few care to observe the ideals of the great teachers.

Christ was the victim of envious persons who were opposed to His teachings and who leveled accusations against Him. Devotees of God should not mind the criticisms of envious persons. All good people have to face such troubles. They should treat everything as meant for their good.     Divine Discourse: 25 December 1997
