Amos 5:14-15
Seek Good and Love Good
14 Seek good, not evil,
that you may live.
Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you,
just as you say he is.
15 Hate evil, love good;
maintain justice in the courts.
Perhaps the LORD God Almighty will have mercy
on the remnant of Joseph.
Amos was a shepherd, who also took care of sycamore-fig trees...The nation of Israel and Judah, as well as neighboring nations were treating the poor unjustly and worshipping foreign gods...The nation of Israel had become prosperous...Rich people were taking advantage of poor people...Those people (who were treating others unfairly) needed to repent...
God can quickly turn prosperity and prosperous times into tough times...We should always live right, not take advantage of others, and help those in need at all times...
The prophet tells the people to seek good, not evil that we may live...We are to hate evil, and love good and God may have mercy on us...
We should focus on first seeking good, then on loving good...Evil is out there, and those who seek it usually find it...Seek good instead...
Amos tells us to seek and love good and God will be with us and the LORD will have mercy on us...
