WalkWell Innovation Hub is a centre for exploring footwear innovation and promoting walking culture.
'WalkWell' is a combination of WALKABILITY and WELLNESS which are related to in a way where walking is a part of wellness. Located in Kampung Datuk Keramat, this centre helps in improving the connectivity of both north and south part of Kampung Datuk Keramat which segregated by the the elevated AKLEH highway and Klang river. Culturally, the citizens there are using easements and linkage bridge to reach the other side. Looking back at the potential connectivity there, the project helps to connect the pedestrians and enliven the area of Klang river. Not just promoting the walking culture, but also encourage the user to explore the area. Due to it's strategic location which much equipted with public transports, walking seems the ideal way to commute around. The user are having their time in exploring the area without realising that they have improve their health by walking. Achieving 20000 steps a day which also 8km, could improve one's health. By walking upwards and downwards at the ramp of building, an individual has achieve 1km which is 1250 steps that could reduce 4.5% of chronic disease.
Other than that, this innovation hub provide spaces for artisans and researcher do collaboration which can improve the footwear design in terms of practicality and giving the identity to the footwear. Customising footwear for an individual according to their foot condition would give comfortability to the user and came out with the best design to the owner. By collaborating, the artisans could improve their product by innovating with technology and one company could have the uniqueness in terms of design, thus, enliven the local identity.
