Dr. Mark Ammar Rayes is a Principal Architect at Celestica and an Adjunct Professor at San José State University, with over two decades of leadership experience as a Director and Distinguished Engineer at Cisco and AT&T Bell Labs. A trailblazer in AI, IoT, networking, and service platforms, Dr. Rayes is a best-selling author of four books, has published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, and holds over 45 issued patents.
He is the founding president of the International Society of Service Innovation Professionals (ISSIP) and currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Advances in Internet of Things journal. In addition, he is a Senior Editor of the IEEE Journal of Selected Areas in Communications and has served as Associate Editor for the ACM Transactions on Internet Technology and the Journal of Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing. Dr. Rayes has also guest-edited more than a dozen special issues across leading IEEE journals and magazines and has delivered numerous keynotes at top-tier industry and academic conferences.
A widely respected innovator and speaker, he is a Cisco Live Distinguished Speaker and a recipient of numerous Innovation and Execution Awards. At Cisco, he was the founding chair of the Cisco Services Patent Committee and earned the Cisco Chairman’s Choice Award for his pioneering work in IoT innovation and execution.
Dr. Rayes holds a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, and a postgraduate certification in AI/ML/LLM from the University of Texas at Austin.
