Policy Work: Examples include


Representing UK Young Academy (UKYA) at a DSIT roundtable chaired by Sir Patrick Vallance to discuss working with DSIT to improve innovative research culture, entrepreneurship, ECR job precarity, and talent retention


Subject matter expert participation in workshop at the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) involving DSIT, NHS and Sir Chris Whitty on the “future of neighbourhood health for coastal communities”, which helped identify key technologies, policies and upskilling needed for this task


Through National Engineering Policy Centre (NEPC), was paired as a systems thinking and engineering expert with a senior civil servant (RAEng policy fellow), to collaborate, learn and inform policy fellow’s work in sottish civil service


Contributing to government policy consultations through the IET, including as an Executive Committee Member (2017-22) of Healthcare Technology Technical Professional Network of the IET, especially in the areas of emerging technologies and research and science capabilities


Active participation in policy dialogue as a subject matter expert/collaborator through National Engineering Policy Centre (NEPC) of the Royal Academy of Engineering, covering areas such as multimorbidity, ageing population, healthcare service delivery


Sponsored on the Royal Society Science policy primer workshop to gain foundational knowledge on how science policy making works


Representing RAEng at European science policy (ALLEA/SAPEA) meeting, as a voice of the UK’s mid-career academics, advocating and learning about greater involvement of early to mid-career academics in European level science policy making, including inter academy collaborations within European academies


Working with the Royal Society on issues of refugee/at risk scholars, including visa, migration, precarious funding/short term contracts and academic freedom


Currently leading a project (through UKYA) to support at-risk researchers in the UK to address issues on migration, barriers for research/progression, lack of access to information/upskilling
