I have received BSc in computer engineering from University of Isfahan(UI) . UI is one of the best universities in Iran, and entering this university was a great achievement for me. I was a founder of UI game developers association in 2009. Although I enjoyed variety of courses at UI especially Principle of Operating Systems and Concurrent Programming, but I found my main interest in the field of natural language processing (NLP) when I was defining my final project. I defined my final project on the concept of stemming, which consisted a set of linguistic rules for finding the stem of a word.
I have received MSc in Artificial Intelligence from Sharif University of Technology. I performed a comprehensive research on the concept of Dependency Grammars, which is a sub-field of NLP regarding a class of modern grammars based on dependency relations. In my thesis, titled “Automatic Persian Grammar Extraction Based on a Dependency Corpus”, I have compared dependency parsing and classical phrase based methods. An important reason to prefer dependency parsing over classical phrased based methods, especially for languages such as Persian, with the property of being “free word order”, is that this particular property has a negative impact on the accuracy of classical phrase based parsing methods. Additionally, dependency relations have some information that can be very useful for many NLP applications.
Now, I am PhD student in University of New Brunswick since Sep 2016. As a part of my education, I am working in the Laboratory of Systems, Software & Semantics (LS3) at Ryerson University on SoCom project. In this project, I want to improve the performance of E-Commerce systems such as Recommendation systems by using information extracted from Social Networks such as Twitter.
