Amiah Allen's ePortfolio

My name is Amiah J. Allen. I graduated from Lima Senior High, located in Lima, Ohio. I am currently enrolled as a freshman at The University of Toledo, where I intend to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. With this degree I have the ability to be an educator, teaching grades pre-kindergarten through third grade. I decided to pursue a career in this field for a number of reasons. During my years of schooling, teachers played a major role in all the successes I was able to achieve through academics. Fortunately, I had been given teachers that are nothing but loving, persuading and determined to have their students succeed. In return, I have always yearned to become an educator that leaves a mark on her students. Becoming an educator is more than summer vacation and weekends off. From my perspective, I believe all educators should wish to mold the minds of their students to prepare them for the world, both inside and outside of the classroom. Other than teachers and family members, my passion for teaching also came from my grandmother. My grandmother worked in this field for 20+ years as a preschool teacher. During my senior year of high school in our school's DECA program, I also had the opportunity to do something for the children of a Lima City school. While upholding the senior class' secretary position, I was also chosen as our community service project's, "Big Spartans Little Spartans" lead. As a project lead along with two other classmates, we were held accountable for how this mentoring program could help benefit fifth-grade students at Lima North Middle School. With this project, the three of us were able to conduct daily exercises that would strengthen their knowledge of community service, classroom behavioral skills, classroom capabilities and relationship building with fellow Senior DECA members. Being a part of this project made an impact on not only my career choice but in competitions as well. Attached below is a link of how far our project excelled in DECA competition.
