FAQ
Do you make all of these things yourself?
Answer: Yes, I hand make everything that I sell and also the displays I use in person. One of the reasons I started my YouTube channel was to prove I have the skills and ability to create the things that I sell.
Have you seen or been on Forged in Fire?
Answer: Yes, I have seen it and no, I have not been on the show yet...Â
Do you do custom work?
Answer: I do not, for a few reasons. In my experience custom work can be too time consuming. I like to freely create when I work and meeting specific requirements is too stressful. This venture is a hobby for me, not a full time gig.
Do you give lessons?
Answer: Unfortunately, I do not. While I do have insurance to sell in person, getting insurance to provide classes that use a forge is way more trouble and money than I am willing to invest in. I also operate from my garage attached to my home, and I would like to maintain my privacy! If you want to learn how to forge, there are loads of videos on YouTube to show you how to get started with minimal investment. It just takes a willingness and some space to do it!
What kind of steel is this?
Answer: I use a lot of repurposed steel such has old Nicholson and Simmons files, leaf springs and farrier rasps. I also use regular knife making steel such as 1095, 1084, 80CRV2, 5160 etc
Do railroad spikes make good knives?
Answer: Eh, not really. I order the ones with an HC stamped on the pommel because they (supposedly) have more carbon than the average RR spike. I quench them in water, so they will pass the file test for hardness with a C+ . I would say they make a decent utility knife that holds a decent edge. Most people buy them for the novelty.
