In December, Troop 140 did a Troop Lock-In. We stayed in Forker Gym on the Iowa State campus, slept on the floor in sleeping bags, and had activities, including swimming and nerf gun fights. We went swimming in the gym's pool, and had nerf wars in separate gym. We left at 6:00 pm on Friday and got home at 1:00 on Sunday. We had pizza and soda for dinner. All the scouts had fun and many nerf darts were lost.
In May, Troop 140 went to Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad and Museum. We camped out near the railroad, went on a ride, and got the Railroading merit badge after cycling through stations and learning quite a bit about railroads. We went over safety, types of train cars, signals, how to work railroads, and many other things. After a long night, we got home at 1:00 Sunday afternoon.
In July, Troop 140 went to summer camp at Camp Mitigwa. Each Scout took at least three merit badges, with younger scouts reserving the last spot for advancement with the adult leaders. On Monday, we woke up early to swim, then had breakfast and went off to our classes. Sadly, it stormed Tuesday, so the range, pool, lakefront, and climbing wall were closed. Wednesday was sunny and nice until the last class, when a storm blew in, forcing everybody to shelter in the dining hall. The families of many scouts came that night, and some of them brought food! We had pizza from Papa John's, ice cream, donuts, and many more treats. Thursday was the day most of us got the merit badges we had been working on, and the first sunny day since Monday. Friday was a day of makeup for scouts who didn't finish their badges, and for two boys, Zak and Alex, their induction into the Order of the Arrow. We got home at around 1:00 Saturday and left at that time Sunday.
