Why I joined the AmeriCorps Alums of MA Board: I love being involved with AmeriCorps and truly believe in the program! My one year of service with AmeriCorps after college turned into 3, and a whole career. I think doing a year of service is so invaluable and gives you the ability to build skills that you can't learn in the classroom, as well as develop different perspectives on the world around you. Plus you get to meet some amazing people who can turn into lifelong friends. I was so excited for another opportunity to be involved with the program and bringing AmeriCorps Alums in MA together to build community. This is my second year on the board and it has been so fun!
Sarah Prusik (she/her) served in AmeriCorps from 2016 to 2018 with Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago. She currently works as a Project Coordinator with Education Development Center. Sarah joined the Americorps Alums of Massachusetts board to re-connect with service work and grow her professional network. A fun fact about Sarah is that she speaks French and has worked as a teacher in France.
Samantha (she/her) recently joined the board in 2024 and currently works as the Communications and Marketing Associate at the Massachusetts Service Alliance. She’s passionate about using creativity and collaboration to support community engagement. Before MSA, she gained valuable experience at the Walt Disney Company. An avid marathon runner who has completed all six World Marathon Majors, Samantha is eager to channel her dedication and innovation into supporting the board’s mission. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring Boston’s diverse neighborhoods through local run clubs and seeking new perspectives and ideas by listening to a variety of podcasts.
Aaliyah (she/her) was a Mass Promise Fellow for two years (2021-2023). A fun fact about her is that she loves to ski, and she tries to get out on the mountain every weekend in the wintertime. She joined the board because she wanted to be more active in the Americorps Alumni community and see what sort of an impact she could make as both an alumna and as someone who still interacts with fellows!
Alex Salvatore (she/her) is currently a 4th grade special education teacher in Newton Public Schools. Originally from Connecticut, she moved to the Boston area in 2015 to serve with AmeriCorps as a mentor with City Year Greater Boston. She worked at the Trotter Elementary School in a 6th grade classroom. After her service year, she was inspired to pursue teaching full time and attended Simmons University to obtain her Masters in the Art of Teaching. She received dual licensure in elementary and special education. She joined the board to help AmeriCorps alumni reconnect with each other. She also wanted to reengage with the meaningful service. In her spare time, she enjoys continuing to explore the city of Boston, taking walks in the Arboretum, and traveling with her husband, Justin.
Ariel Lepito has been on the AmeriCorps Alums of MA board since 2020. She served as a VISTA in Grinnell, Iowa in 2017, and then again as a VISTA Leader in Worcester, Massachusetts in 2018. Since then she has been in the field of higher education, both at the nonprofit and university level. Ariel enjoys the outdoors, spending time with her two cats, and learning new skills (currently ceramics and web development)!
