The Germans committed a couple of acts that gave Wilson all he needed to justify entering the Great War.
1) A German u-boat (submarine) torpedoed a British passenger ship named the Lusitania, that was carrying American passengers.
2) A telegram was intercepted from Germany to Mexico, inviting the Mexicans to join an alliance with Germany with the reward of Germany assuring Mexico that Texas would be returned to them.
