PANAMANIAN INDEPENDENCE

Roosevelt simply met with people from the region of Panama and encouraged them to declare independence from Colombia, with the help of the U.S. of course.

Once they were independent, Roosevelt maneuvered for the new Panamanian governent to convey a 10 mile wide path through the region to the United States government.
