In 1970, Two students of economics Professor Izumi Taniguchi encouraged him to create and start the Asian American Studies program at Fresno State. Due to the political instability and student activism going on at the time, a student who joined the program later that year decided to establish the Amerasia Club for Asian American students to help promote cultural diversity and cultural awareness. As the club expanded beyond an ethnic college club to collaborating more with other clubs and organizations to further education and social agendas for Asian-Americans, the club was renamed to the Amerasia Organization in 2003.Â
Today, Amerasia is a vastly diverse multi-cultural organization. We still strongly promote cultural diversity and cultural awareness. Amerasia also supports higher education. With this in mind, Amerasia hopes to raise enough money to fund a scholarship for students pursuing higher education, in the near future. In addition, Amerasia continues to educate the community of the various Asian/Asian American cultures here in the Central Valley through our annual Amerasia Week.
