Bridging the Past to the Future through the Use of Present-Day Tactics
Without the youth, the church will perish. The late Whitney Houston said it best, "The children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way." Hosea 4:6 says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." This page is created with the intent to provide ideas to engage youth into the worship experience. This page wasn't an one-man idea. It is a derivation from the journal article written by Mary Norton (1997).
Three ways to improve youth involvement:
- EDUCATE
- Note-taking was taught in school. It should also be taught in church. The sermon isn't just a message preached to the old people. It is a relevant lesson for a future generation. Take the time on Sunday to teach the youth HOW to take notes on the message being delivered. Speakers, preachers, and pastors: be bold and interact with the congregation (especially the youth) to ensure the message or points are being heard.
- Small group, whole group, or one-on-one: The youth must be taught. How else will they learn? If we compare the way learning occurred 40 years ago to the way learning occurs today, one will find that it is quite different. Difference must be embraced.

- EMBRACE
- In the educational world, there is countless research on the importance of relationships. Much of which can be transferred to the religious sector. What are you doing to embrace the future?
