I get worse performance with the AMD card than if I use the built-in Intel graphics. I tried uncommenting the "use radeon prime" driver line in my batocera-boot.conf but that didn't do anything. I've noticed that I have access to Vulkan drivers if I use the on-board video card. If I switch to the Radeon card, then no Vulkan drivers and lower performance.

So I poked around and found some other threads who shared a similar issue to myself and it seems that what was recommended tried (w/ varying degrees of success) was to sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and to add blacklist radeon to it and then run sudo update-initramfs -u.

You would probably need to downgrade so many packages that I would strongly recommend continuing to use the in-kernel radeon driver, as it stayed in development for much longer and (combined with modern Mesa OpenGL) really offers decent performance.

You are using SU16 according to your profile. SU16 has 32- and 64-bit versions. For some bugsplatting problems attributed to graphic drivers, users can uninstall the 64-bit version and install the 32-bit version because the required OpenGL functionality for the installed drivers running the 32-bit program version is better. People do not need to change anything with their 64-bit OS.

DriverGuide maintains an extensive archive of Windows drivers available for free download. We employ a team from around the world which adds hundreds of new drivers to our site every day. How to Install Drivers Once you download your new driver, then you need to install it. To install a driver in Windows, you will need to use a built-in utility called Device Manager. It allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.

Many device drivers are not updated through the Microsoft Windows Update service. If you are having trouble finding the right driver, stop searching and fix driver problems faster with the Automatic Driver Update Utility. Automatic updates could save you hours of time.

The Driver Update Utility automatically finds, downloads and installs the right driver for your hardware and operating system. It will Update all of your drivers in just a few clicks, and even backup your drivers before making any changes.

Many computer problems are caused by missing or outdated device drivers, especially in Windows 11. If your desktop or laptop is running slow, or keeps crashing or hanging, there is a good chance that updating your drivers will fix the problem.

At first i had thought of getting a Radeon Rx 550 2gb Gddr5 Low Profile Rx550 but then the nvidia one seemed to be better for me and the nvidia seems to require less psu power to work, it feels like that the radeon would work out of the box

Yes it would as it uses amdgpu open source kernel drivers I think if it were me i would uninstall the nvidia drivers first and then make your hardware changes and then boot up on the nvidia card. You may also be able to uninstall the 340.xx drivers and install nouveau open source drivers first. Then it may boot on the nouveau drivers without issue and then you can install the current nvidia drivers.

AMD Catalyst is being developed for Microsoft Windows and Linux. As of July 2014, other operating systems are not officially supported. This may be different for the AMD FirePro brand, which is based on identical hardware but features OpenGL-certified graphics device drivers.

The radeon kernel driver is not reverse engineered, but based on documentation released by AMD.[46] This driver still requires proprietary microcode to operate DRM functions and some GPUs may fail to launch the X server if not available.

This new kernel driver is directly supported and developed by AMD. It is available on various Linux distributions, and has been ported to some other operating systems as well. Only GCN GPUs are supported.[5]

This new driver by AMD was still undergoing development in 2018, but could be used on a few supported Linux distributions already (AMD officially supports Ubuntu, RHEL/CentOS).[47] The driver has been experimentally ported to ArchLinux[48] and other distributions. AMDGPU-PRO is set to replace the previous AMD Catalyst driver and is based on the free and open source amdgpu kernel driver. Pre-GCN GPUs are not supported.

hello everyone, I'm trying to install a 340 dkms nvidia driver on the latest kernel, but nvidia-xconfig throws an error "unable to locate/open X configuration file", but before that gnome started quite successfully in software rendering (I think).
