7900 XT Owner here, feelin very small buyers remorse but more curious about public opinion. At the time of buying, it was at $850 (before price drop) so i thought it was a good deal, whilst any XTX avilable went for ~$1,200, so it didn't feel like that bad of a choice.

I have tried everything, it simply won't work. Different cables, different connections, all supported drivers for 7900XTX, extracted old drivers to get only HD audio driver, installed clean windows 11 on a second drive.

I saw your reply above. I have never even been able to get the Atmos demo to play in Atmos with AMD. Now I've switched to a 7900 XTX because I couldn't justify the extra $300 for a 4080 so I don't think 21.5.1 is even an option for me now.

Ok, I broke my Rift S by upgrading my 2080ti to an XFX Radeon 7900XT Black. VR became practically useless with so much stuttering and double vision. Hours and hours on the boards and tweaking everything I could find and no luck.

Hey! I have a somewhat similar set-up (Quest 3 headset, CPU a 5800x w/ a 7900 XTX GPU). What Virtual Desktop settings do you use, if you don't mind my asking? Been playing around with it for a bit and can't seem to dial it in quite like I want.

personally, I'm using a RX 7900 XTX with my Quest Pro and Quest 3. I'm running Driver Version 23.9.2 (latest WHQL). Link and Airlink both work great.

I'm in danger of getting a Quest 3 for Christmas, but I'm pretty skeptical about the update and airlink functionality with AMD. I have a cpu 7900 +7900xtx + archer ax23 and I think the quality is decent, but the response is worse compared to my other cpu 3060+rtx3060ti computer. can you please tell me if it makes sense to go to Quest 3 nr or nr, or how the av1 codec works... thanks

the fact that crash occurs with 7900xtx doesn't mean it is the cause , you can have forgotten to "load setup default" in bios when you change from one gpu to another , or if you don't do DDU when uninstalling drivers ...

I see you say you've tried other psu cables and slots but have you tried a completely different psu? I had crash issues with my 7900XTX as well and it turned out that a brand new 1250w Inwin psu was the issue all along. I even had it stable for a time when I changed monitor so it was really hard to solve the issue.

I tried on my xfx 7900xtx 1093mv few days multiple games and benchmarks all went perfect then cyberpunk with path tracing pushed the cores to level where 1093mv failed and amd driver self rebooted gpu and game crashed.

I am having the same issue with my sapphire 7900 xtx and even had it replaced via RMA. 2nd one doing the same thing. I tried resetting my bios and turning off core performance boost. same results. I even used HWInfo to look at chipset temps and put new thermal pad on it. I've tried many of the solutions and nothing seems to be the fix all for this.

a hard black screen with VGA error light and same manual power cycle at the PSU is required to get the system to boot. upon reboot my system goes into a 800x600 resolution and shows an issue in device manager with my 7900 xtx then after another reboot it's completely fine back to 4k (which is what I run my system at)

Thanks for this Matt, I was in the process of returning my 7900XTX for an nvidia card because of this issue. If you are working on a fix then perhaps I should hold off. It is worth noting that the TV detects the HDR signal correctly if you disable freesync in the driver panel. Turn freesync on and it displays premium pro in the TV menu but doesn't recognise the HDR signal.

Before the 7900XTX I had an RTX 3090 and had no issues so far with HDR on this TV, so please release a fix. If I could help, I registered to AMD Vanguard to join any kind of private Beta, as I want to help with my PC and TV to make all tests possible if needed.

I just upgraded to the 7900 xt, have a 3900x cpu and 32 gig ram. I have only been able to squeeze out about same fps as you with most things ultra. Had about 17 fps with the 6700xt and most settings on high to medium and have 1080p. Noticed GPU utilization was around upper 80%, and cpu around 25%. Is that about the best fps I am going to get? Really thought I would pick up more, kind of disappointed. I have tried a number of things to get more. I can say visually it looks better.

As @MadMan2064 mentioned in the comments, amdgpu-install from -drivers worked for me with a Radeon RX 7900 XT. Even though I'm on Ubuntu 22.10 (kinetic), the 22.04 version worked. I installed the .deb file and ran amdgpu-install without any arguments, and that was sufficient. No need to install a special kernel or add a ppa.

On the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, the GCD contains 6,144 streaming processors, 384 TMUs, 192 ROPs, and 96 Ray Tracing cores, and the shaders are clocked at 2,300MHz with a boost clock of 2,500MHz. The Radeon RX 7900 XT contains the same GCD, but with some shaders disabled, leaving 5,376 streaming processors, 336 TMUs, 168 ROPs, and 84 Ray Tracing cores active. The clock speed was also reduced slightly, to 2,000MHz with a boost clock of 2,400MHz.

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX and the Radeon RX 7900 XT both have six MCDs, but one of these units is disabled on the Radeon 7900 XT. The Radeon 7900 XTX, with 96MB of Infinity Cache and a 384-bit memory interface, has 20GB of GDDR6X RAM that enables 960GBps of bandwidth for that card; the Radeon RX 7900 XT loses about a sixth of this across the board, giving it 80MB of Infinity Cache, a 320-bit memory interface, and 800GBps of bandwidth while also using 20Gbps GDDR6X vRAM.

AMD reworked various aspects of the Radeon RX 7900 XT to fit these reductions. In addition to having fewer cores and less bandwidth, the Radeon RX 7900 XT has a lower 315-watt TDP and a smaller overall physical size, as it measures 4.4 by 10.9 by 2.1 inches (HWD). Three fans are fit over the card to provide cooling in this AMD reference design.

AMD has just released their new, highly anticipated, Radeon 7000 series GPUs, including the Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB and 7900 XTX 24GB. While most consumer GPU launches tend to focus on gaming performance, this level of card is also almost ubiquitous in the content creation space.

Regardless of how the 7900 XTX performs, the 24GB of VRAM alone makes it very attractive for video editors working with 8K+ media, VFX artists rendering large scenes, as well as many real-time engine workflows.

On the whole, the 7900 XTX is a fairly straightforward upgrade to both the 6900 XT and the 6950 XT. VRAM, cores, and frequency all got a bump, without an increase in MSRP pricing. The only real downside to this new card is that (as is becoming typical for new GPUs) the power draw and thermal output have increased. Where the 6900 XT was a 300W card, the new 7900 XTX is 355W. That puts it a bit hotter and power-hungry than the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, although a lot of the difference can be mitigated by using a model with a good cooler and having solid chassis airflow.

To see how the AMD Radeon 7900 XTX 24GB performs, we will be comparing it to the previous generation Radeon 6900 XT, as well as a range of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30- and 40-series cards. The test system we will be using is one of the fastest platforms currently available for most of the applications we are testing and is built around the AMD Threadripper Pro 5975WX in order to minimize any potential CPU bottlenecks.

For our first look at the new AMD Radeon 7900 XTX 24GB, we are going to examine performance in DaVinci Resolve Studio. More so than any other NLE (Non-Linear Editor) currently on the market, Resolve can make terrific use of high-end GPUs, and even multi-GPU setups. The four main areas the GPU is used for are processing GPU effects, debayering (and optionally decoding) RAW media, and H.264/HEVC decoding/encoding

Moving on to chart #3, we wanted to specifically pull out the H.264/HEVC tests where we were exporting to DNxHR (which has no hardware encoding support). There is no easy way to test pure decoding performance in a complete vacuum (since you always have to encode or otherwise display the media), but this should be a good indicator of how each GPU is able to handle hardware decoding of H.264 and HEVC media. Here, the Radeon 7900 XTX is again at the top, just barely sneaking past the RTX 4090. Realistically, however, the difference between the 7900 XTX and the RTX 4080/4090 is negligible and very unlikely to ever be noticed as a part of everyday work.

One area where a more powerful GPU can often give you a boost is for GPU-accelerated effects like Lumetri Color, most blurs, etc. (chart #2). For these tasks, the 7900 XTX does well, essentially matching the top-end RTX 30-series cards and the RTX 4080. The RTX 4090 still has a lead here, but given the price difference between the 7900 XTX and the RTX 4090, the difference is more than acceptable. e24fc04721
