Welcome to AMCHAT

AMCHAT is a small chat platform built for people who miss the feeling of simple internet hangouts.

It is not trying to be a giant social media platform, a corporate messaging app, or another place filled with endless feeds, algorithms, subscriptions, and unnecessary menus.

AMCHAT is built around one basic idea:

Make a room, join a room, and talk.

You can use AMCHAT to hang out with friends, meet people in public rooms, create locked rooms for private circles, message someone directly, join voice chats, share your screen, turn on your camera, and send temporary images.

The site is still being built piece by piece. New features, weird little ideas, bug fixes, and community feedback continue to shape what AMCHAT becomes.

Simple Accounts

You only need a username and password to create an AMCHAT account.

A real email address is not required just to chat.

Behind the scenes, AMCHAT creates an internal login address from your username so Firebase can manage your account securely.

All you need is:

• a username

• a password made specifically for AMCHAT

Do not reuse an important password from another website.

AMCHAT passwords are visible while you type them, so make sure nobody is looking over your shoulder.

Optional Email Verification

A real email is optional, but verified accounts can unlock image uploads.

You can add and verify an email from Settings. After verification, you can sign in using that email instead of your username.

The login screen includes a switch for choosing between:

• email login

• username login

You can also remove the email from your account and immediately return to username login. Removing the email locks image uploads again until another email is verified.

Your email login and your public AMCHAT username are separate. Changing your visible name does not change a verified email login.

Chatrooms

The main part of AMCHAT is chatrooms.

A room is a place where multiple people can talk together in real time. Some rooms are public and easy to join. Other rooms are locked and require a password.

Rooms can be used for almost anything:

• friend groups

• random conversations

• niche interests

• private hangouts

• small communities

• secret rooms

• testing ideas

• late-night internet nonsense

AMCHAT rooms are meant to stay lightweight.

You do not need to create a giant server with dozens of channels, roles, categories, bots, and menus. You can simply make a room and start talking.

Public Rooms

Public rooms are open rooms that anyone can find and join.

They are good for casual conversation, meeting people, discussing a topic, or starting a general hangout.

If you want a place where anyone can walk in and talk, public rooms are the easiest way to do it.

Locked Rooms

Locked rooms work like regular rooms, but they require a password to enter.

They are useful for friend circles, private groups, secret clubs, smaller communities, or rooms where only certain people know the password.

Locked rooms can also be used in fun ways. A password could be shared somewhere else, hidden inside another room, posted on a personal website, or passed around between friends.

It gives AMCHAT a little secret-door feeling.

Remembered Room Passwords

After you successfully enter the password for a locked room, AMCHAT remembers that access on your account and browser.

The next time you enter that room, you can join immediately without typing the password again.

If the room owner changes the password, the remembered access stops working and you will be asked for the new password.

Room Topics

Rooms can have a topic shown near the room title.

A topic can explain what the room is about, show a short rule, display an announcement, or simply contain something stupid.

Room owners can change the topic from Room Settings.

Room Search

AMCHAT includes room search so you can look through available rooms.

Instead of scrolling forever, you can type what you are looking for and find matching rooms more quickly.

Locked rooms are marked as locked in the room list.

Room Creation Limits

To reduce room spam, each account can create up to ten rooms during a rolling twenty-four-hour period.

There is no permanent limit on how many rooms an account may own.

Similar room names may also be temporarily blocked to prevent people from rapidly creating copies of the same room.

Rooms that nobody opens or joins for two weeks may become eligible for automatic deletion.

Room Owner Controls

The person who creates a room becomes its owner.

Room owners can:

• rename the room

• change the room topic

• add, change, or remove the room password

• delete the room

• delete normal messages sent by anybody inside that specific room

Removing the password makes the room public again.

Deleted messages are replaced with:

[Deleted Message]

System messages and voice-call messages cannot be deleted through normal message moderation.

Join and Leave Messages

AMCHAT can show messages when people join or leave a room.

This is a personal display setting and is disabled by default.

Turning it off only hides those messages for you. Other people who have the setting enabled can still see them.

The setting can also hide or reveal older join and leave messages that are already loaded.

Room Presence

AMCHAT keeps track of who is currently inside a room.

Presence uses regular activity updates so people who close the site, lose connection, or disappear unexpectedly do not remain in the user list forever.

Inactive room sessions eventually time out automatically.

Typing Indicators

Rooms and Direct messages include typing indicators.

You can see when somebody is currently typing without their unfinished message being sent.

Typing indicators disappear after the person stops typing or leaves.

Message Links

Web links inside messages can be clicked.

Before AMCHAT opens a link, it asks you to confirm where you are going.

This helps prevent accidental clicks, but you should still use common sense when opening links from people you do not know.

Temporary Images

Verified users can upload images into rooms and Direct messages.

AMCHAT currently accepts only:

• PNG

• JPEG or JPG

• GIF

SVG files and all other file types are rejected.

Images must be no larger than 2 MB.

Each verified account receives a total image-upload allowance of 2 MB per UTC day.

Images are temporary. They automatically expire after approximately one week.

When an image is removed, the message remains and displays:

[Image has expired.]

Temporary images help AMCHAT stay lightweight and prevent it from turning into a permanent file-storage service.

Image Uploads

Choosing an image does not immediately post it.

The image stays ready inside the message box until you press Send or Enter. You can also type normal text alongside it.

Once confirmed, the image is uploaded and sent with the message.

Images can be clicked to open fullscreen.

A Download button appears underneath available images so you can save them before they expire.

Image Deletion

When the original uploader deletes their own image message, AMCHAT also attempts to delete the actual image file from Cloudflare storage immediately.

If a room owner deletes another person’s image message, the message disappears from the room, but the file may remain stored until its normal one-week expiration.

Image storage also has an emergency safety limit. If storage approaches the configured maximum, AMCHAT can reset the image bucket early and old image messages will display the expired-image notice.

AMCHAT Direct

AMCHAT Direct is the private messaging part of AMCHAT.

You can search for another user by their exact username and start a one-on-one conversation.

Direct messages are useful when you meet somebody in a room and want to keep talking outside the main chat.

Rooms are for groups.

AMCHAT Direct is for one-on-one conversations.

Contacts

Users can add other people to their Contacts list.

Contacts make it easier to return to people you regularly message without searching for their username every time.

Contacts can also show unread-message badges.

You can remove somebody from Contacts whenever you want.

Blocking

Users can block other accounts.

A blocked user cannot successfully send you Direct messages or start a Direct voice call with you.

Their failed message attempt displays:

[Message not delivered.]

Blocked users can later be unblocked from AMCHAT Direct.

Direct Notifications

AMCHAT shows unread Direct-message counts and identifies which users sent new messages.

Room unread indicators also show when activity happened in rooms you previously joined.

AMCHAT avoids sending unnecessary desktop notifications when you are already actively viewing the conversation where the message arrived.

Desktop Notifications

Desktop notifications can be enabled or disabled from the room list.

When enabled, AMCHAT may alert you about new messages while you are looking at another tab.

Your browser controls notification permission. If notifications do not appear, check your browser or operating-system notification settings.

Direct Voice Calls

AMCHAT Direct includes one-on-one voice calls.

A voice call can continue while you browse other Direct conversations or return to the room list.

Active calls are shown through clickable indicators so you can return to them.

Direct calls include:

• microphone mute

• call volume control

• camera support

• screensharing

• fullscreen media viewing

Both people can use their cameras or share their screens.

Room Voice Chat

Rooms also include voice chat.

People can join a room voice session without leaving the text conversation.

Room voice supports:

• microphones

• mute controls

• cameras

• screensharing

• multiple media panels

• reconnect handling

AMCHAT only allows one active voice session at a time.

Joining a Direct call leaves room voice, and joining room voice leaves a Direct call.

Voice Settings

Voice Settings allow you to choose:

• input device

• output device

• whether your microphone starts muted

Browser support for selecting an output device may vary.

AMCHAT does not automatically join voice chats.

Profiles

Usernames in messages and user lists can show small profile tooltips.

Profiles may include:

• status

• bio

• account creation date

• last seen

Statuses can contain up to 50 characters.

Bios can contain up to 200 characters.

Showing the account creation date and last-seen information is optional and controlled by the account owner.

Name Changes

You can change your public AMCHAT name from Settings.

Names can only be changed once every thirty days.

When a name changes, older messages can display the updated public name without rewriting the original message history.

Accounts using a verified email keep the same email login when changing their public name.

Password Reset

Your AMCHAT password can be changed from Settings.

Changing the password signs the account out from other open AMCHAT sessions.

This is useful if you think somebody else knows your password or you left your account open somewhere.

Dark Mode

AMCHAT includes light and dark display modes.

Your choice is saved in the browser so the site can remember it next time.

Bigger Chat Areas

Room chats and AMCHAT Direct use larger message areas so longer conversations are easier to read.

The layout also adjusts for smaller screens and mobile devices.

Old-Web Energy

AMCHAT is inspired by older internet chatrooms and small web communities.

It is supposed to feel simple, direct, slightly rough around the edges, and alive.

The internet used to have more tiny places where people could simply show up and talk. AMCHAT is trying to bring back some of that feeling while still using a modern backend for accounts, realtime messages, voice, media, and storage.

It is not about being perfectly polished.

It is about feeling like a place.

Small Community First

AMCHAT is not trying to become enormous overnight.

A few active rooms are better than a giant empty platform.

A few people actually talking are better than thousands of dead accounts.

AMCHAT grows best when people create rooms, invite friends, test features, report bugs, and help shape what the site becomes.

Safety and Common Sense

AMCHAT is still an early project, so use common sense.

Do not post private personal information.

Do not reuse an important password.

Do not send sensitive images.

Do not trust random people with personal information.

Be careful when opening links or downloading files, even though AMCHAT currently restricts image uploads to PNG, JPEG, and GIF files.

Treat AMCHAT like any public chatroom:

Fun, but still the internet.

What AMCHAT Is For

AMCHAT is for people who want a simple place to talk.

It is for:

• public rooms

• locked rooms

• private messages

• friend groups

• voice calls

• room voice chats

• temporary images

• weird little communities

• late-night conversations

• old-web-style hangouts

AMCHAT is not trying to replace every other app.

It is trying to be its own small thing.

What Comes Next

AMCHAT will continue growing with new features, fixes, experiments, moderation tools, and improvements to rooms, profiles, voice, images, notifications, and Direct messages.

Features may change as the site is tested.

Some ideas will work.

Some ideas will be removed.

Some bugs will probably do something completely ridiculous.

That is part of building it.

Start Chatting

To join AMCHAT, choose a username and password.

A real email is not required for normal chatting.

Once you are signed in, you can create a room, join a room, search for rooms, message somebody through AMCHAT Direct, join voice, share an image, or simply see who is around.

Make a room.

Find a room.

Talk to someone.

That is AMCHAT.
