This website is a work-in-progress. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm doing it. Take that, perfectionism.
I am still learning how to human and how to science. Here's an attempt to share some of what I learned. Or at least catalogue resources that helped me grow as a scientist and as a person in the world.
Here's my CV.
Patching a dopamine neuron in a slice from a mouse brain. Differential Interference Contrast (DIC) image from my rig.
I completed my PhD in Neuroscience at Northwestern University. I studied the neural circuits of habit formation in the Lerner Lab using optogenetics, electrophysiology and fiber photometry. You can find my latest work here, and a short video here.
I have a BS in Biomedical Sciences from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil.
In 2012, I got a Brazil Science Without Borders Fellowship to study at Case Western Reserve University. I did some cool Evo-Devo and mathematical modeling work in Drosophila with Dr. Mizutani and Dr. Chiel.
In 2013, I got a Summer Research Fellowship to work in the Schneggenburger Lab at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, in Switzerland. It was love at first whole cell patch - I love doing and teaching electrophysiology.
Who knew that 15+ years of highly dexterous movements in research labs would translate into an accelerated learning curve in ceramics?
In the ceramics studio at Northwestern University, I make pieces with organic textures that are meant to be touched.
I am documenting my journey here and you can see some of my pieces for sale here.
