Unfortunately it is not possible. I have tried the many options and ways to install the apps. Still I am using Free channels with Firestick, and the associated apps to enjoy the video content on Firestick.

The instructions for installing Kodi on Fire TV are useful if they are not already outdated. Here is a link I sent someone recently of a YouTube video that gets it right, and I have installed Kodi on 3 Fire stick using it:

It cannot access the Fire TV, though. But, you do not need it or another app to do this. The Fire TV w/Kodi enables you to access media files on your NAS (with Kodi), and Kodi will play the media (audio or video) on a TV via the Fire stick. connected to it.

thanks for the lead on MRMC it look promising, trying the LITE version to see if it will cache my home videos on my gige network hardwareired. not sure the Firestick is up to the task, so we will see. maybe buy the $3 version if it works

It sounds like the OP wants to be able to control the Fire TV stick with voice commands. While that is easy enough using Alexa, I understand that capability is going to be rather limited using Google Home.

You could use a virtual switch as a trigger to run a rule that sets a virtual motion sensor to active. Motion sensors can be used as a trigger for routines in the Alexa app which can then control the power commands for the fire tv.

Echo Speaks could also be used to run a custom action with voiceCmdAsText. For example voiceCmdAsText('Home') will take you to the fire tv home menu which depending on your HDMI-CEC settings will power your screen up.

I'm not to sure which voice command would turn it back off though?!

The only issue I faced is that the fire stick goes to sleep after a certain amount of time, so it takes a little workaround to make your screensaver stay on indefinitely. My handy hubby followed a tutorial to make it happen, just click here!

I have connected my fire stick to the network using both wireless and Ethernet connections. It will work sporadically then say it can not display the home screen. When you check the network settings it is connected to the network but has no internet connection. I get the same issue regardless if i use wired or wireless connections. I have a second internet connection available that is a basic straight out the door connection and the fire stick works fine on that again using either wireless or Ethernet.

If that would be your issue, you should see blocked instead of allowed DNS requests for those sites that your FireTV stick would request at the times when you cannot access your FireTV stick's home screen.

My dealer told me (only last week) they were unable to add any control to a Firestick so we have to use Control4 to access the stream and then use the amazon remote to move around within the Firestick UI. Bit clunky to say the least! So if anyone can tell me I should be able to fully integrate the Firestick I would be happy to know so I can get the dealer back in.

I think thats the only advantage, It's just cleaner for the end user to understand what source they are in by looking at the remote. It makes programming a bit easier if you want to fire commands when certain devices are selected i.e Red button when Room Media Device = Netflix etc. This should still be possible either way, but a bit more work the other way.

I've come across and issue with the Firestick's (Gen 2) interaction with VPN's. When a vpn is turned on, the wifi speeds of the firstick get reduced to between 13-18Mbs. It doesn't matter what the wifi speeds are prior to the vpn being turned on (the same result was seen from Wifi speeds of 50Mbs to 80Mbs). This is beyond normal speed loss for VPN's. To test, I tried the same network with a Fire TV Box (Gen 2). There was virtually no speed loss at all over Wifi when the VPN was turned on.

Something (hardware or software related) on the firestick is triggering a slow down when a vpn is turned on. It could be the processor, memory or wifi chip set up as those are the two major differences between the fire tv box and stick.

I've tried Surfshark, NordVPN, WEVPN, and CyberGhost and most of them worked perfectly fine on my laptop or phone. However, I wasn't always able to get the same result on my firestick. Most of them seemed to be able to unblock Netflix US, but I got several proxy error messages when trying to unblock Netflix UK, Australia, or Brazil. I'd like to switch to one of these VPNs for firestick since these are affordable, Did anybody else have used any VPN for firestick mentioned.

You might see if you can reset the Firestick and set it up from scratch. Contact the Mfr of the Firestick for help and information regarding there procuct. Ask to see if there is any specific wifi settings needed on the Orbi for the Firestick.

Sounds like a HW issue with the stick. If other sticks are working with default MTU values and this one partiuclar stick isn't and your having to intervien for it, then this is a work around for the stick, not the Orbi. Probably a faulty batch of sticks.

That was my initial thought too, and after a load of messing about (and yelling:)) I did take it back and exchange it. I had to wait a week because they had none in stock, so the chances of the second stick being the same batch would be low I think. This only affected the netflix app, on the original 4k stick I bought, and the exchange. Netflix works fine on my two other (non-4k) sticks. I have verified the issue by reverting the MTU back to 1492, and it indeed fails to connect to Netflix. I am not dubious that this is the fix, but I am confused as to why it is the fix.

I'm trying to get the Dropbox app working on an Amazon fire stick. There's no way to do so via conventional means. That is, there doesn't appear to be a formal application release for the fire stick. But the fire stick is an Android device and one can install Dropbox "manually" (i.e., by allowing installation from external sources, finding an .apk and installling). When I do so, Dropbox indeed installs. I can even login. But after that, the menu buttons don't work and it's impossible to navigate. It's not functional at all. I'd love to hear if someone brighter than I has figured this out.

Yes, the problem persists after re-installing Dropbox on my fire stick. But I found a solution. Problem solved. I can navigate the Dropbox app on my fire stick if I install the Mouse Toggle for Fire TV app per these instructions. This little app turns the fire stick remote (after fast double-clicking the play button) into a mouse. Then with the mouse functionality enabled, I can scroll through and work with the Dropbox app on the fire stick without a problem. A second working solution is/was to install a third party file exploring app--one that lets one connect to a cloud storage account. At this writing, ES Explorer is Amazon's default suggested file management app. But I don't recommend it. It's pricey. I much prefer Solid Explorer where this version installed okay on my fire stick.

Hello, I buy Amazon Firestick 4K Max and it works great with Emby and my other apps. But as Emby is my main media app I want to ask if there's some configs that I can use to make that experience better. I see there's many apps for configuration for fireTV but I don't know wchich may work with Emby. For example when I start firetv I see recomendations, movies, series from Amazon Prime Video. It's possible also to see that on main page but for Emby media (like continue watching etc.)?

Regards.

Do both devices solve different problems or will Apple TV be sufficient? I was having trouble playing Amazon Prime with the fire stick but now I can with Apple TV. Will I still be able to access both Netflix and Amazon Prime with only Apple TV?

I have, on occasion, had an Apple TV, Firestick and Roku all plugged into the same television. It works just fine. As to benefit, well, only you can answer that. Currently, I have the FireTV stick on my older television that stopped getting updates to the "smart TV features". Buying the FireTV stick so that I could watch AppleTV+ and Disney+ on my living room television was cheaper than buying another Apple TV. The Apple TV is attached to the television that doesn't have a cable box as it has lots of apps that will let me watch a lot of my cable content on that television. e24fc04721
