This STEM/STEAM science assembly uses simple, everyday materials to introduce scientific concepts through engaging demonstrations. Students observe “magic-style” experiments, then examine each one using the scientific process to understand how it works and how it can be safely repeated at home.
The program reinforces key elements of the scientific method and introduces students to all four major branches of science. Content is presented in an age-appropriate, memorable way that supports classroom instruction while keeping students actively engaged.
"Your science program makes learning FUN - the students recall words from the presentation for weeks following. This is the BEST educational show I have ever seen thus far. The students were learning plus entertained. Well worth the cost!"
Sue Ensley, Lake Worth School, Lake Worth, TX

It’s Not Magic, It’s Science! is our most requested science assembly program. It combines engaging demonstrations and age-appropriate humor to help students understand scientific concepts in a memorable way.
Student volunteers participate throughout the program, reinforcing learning through observation and hands-on involvement. The show introduces the scientific method in a clear, accessible format and connects it to multiple areas of science, including physical science, life science, earth science, math, and the human body.
Activities and examples are designed to support a range of grade levels and learning stages, making the program appropriate for diverse elementary audiences.
(This program will appear as “Wacky Science” on the Academic Entertainment website due to a previously registered program name.)
“Our teachers loved the show as much as the students. They asked me to get you back to our school next year! (You were) so easy to work with and book. Everything exceeded expectations.”

This hands-on workshop introduces students to simple machines through active participation. Developed in 2005 in collaboration with staff from the National Science Center in Augusta, GA, the program helps make abstract concepts concrete as students explore wheels, pulleys, levers, wedges, inclined planes, and screws.
Tommy walks onstage dressed as a construction worker, but students do the work! They learn how to lift a 50-pound bucket of rocks with a 5-pound weight using a 12 foot lever, and why a wedge is such a handy tool. Using levers, your youngest students will be able to easily accomplish feats that NO human being can accomplish bare handed. This is a presentation that will be remembered and talked about for a VERY long time.
Oh! And the part of the show where a teacher gets to do something the world’s strongest person can’t do? That’s priceless!
This standards based program connects easily to classroom instruction and promotes literacy and library resources through short discussions of real and fictional inventors. Students learn that innovation comes from people of all ages and that simple machines help us “work smarter, not harder.”
“Mr. Johns came to McKibben Lane and did the presentation for students and parents for Literacy Night. It was awesome. He was so entertaining and the message was great.”
Jane Hardy, Media Specialist, McKibben Lane Elementary, Columbus, GA

Science: Magic in Your Own Backyard!
Students take an imaginative journey through familiar places - backyards, playgrounds, and parks - using puppetry, storytelling, and simple demonstrations. Along the way, they learn how to use the scientific process to explore questions about the world around them.
The program also supports literacy by encouraging curiosity-driven reading. Students are introduced to age-appropriate facts about local plants and animals, including how some species adapt, change color, or transform as they grow.
By combining science and storytelling, magic and puppetry, this program builds observation skills, reinforces inquiry-based learning, and motivates students to read and discover more about the natural world.
“Everyone loved Backyard Science (the science and reading program) and want you to come back! I have let other schools know about the AWESOME show my students saw. I tell them how well you manage and control student behavior, and how much the kids learned. Students are still showing parents your posters and saying, ‘I saw him. It was so much fun!’”
Patty Krezinski, Media Specialist, Diamond Lakes ES, Hephzibah, GA
