Amazian Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 31, 2026

Amazian (“the Extension”) is a Chrome extension that shows short mother-language glosses above harder English words while you read websites. This Privacy Policy explains what information is handled when you use Amazian.

1. Information we do not collect

Amazian does not collect personal identifying information, health information, financial information, authentication credentials, personal communications, precise location data, browsing history lists, or analytics about your clicks, scrolling, or keystrokes for the developer.

Amazian does not operate developer-owned servers that receive your browsing data, and it does not sell user data.

2. Information processed to provide the feature

To provide reading glosses, Amazian may process:

• Website content: English words from the webpage you are viewing, so they can be annotated and translated.

• Settings you choose: such as enabled/disabled state, mother language, translate engine, and hint density. These are stored locally in Chrome storage on your device.

• Translation cache: previously translated words may be stored locally on your device to avoid repeated requests.

3. Third-party translation services

When Amazian needs a gloss, it sends the selected English word(s) to the free translate service you choose in the popup, for example:

• Google Translate

• Microsoft Translator

• MyMemory

• LibreTranslate public instances

Those providers process the submitted words according to their own privacy policies. Amazian only sends the words needed for translation, not your full browsing history.

4. Local storage

Settings and translation caches remain on your device using Chrome’s extension storage APIs. You can remove this data by removing the Extension from Chrome.

5. Permissions

Amazian requests permissions only to provide its single purpose:

• storage — save settings and local translation cache

• activeTab — work on the tab you open when using the popup

• scripting — inject the content script when needed

• website access — read page text and show glosses on HTTP/HTTPS pages

6. Children’s privacy

Amazian is a general reading aid and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes

If this Privacy Policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will be revised. Continued use of Amazian after changes means you accept the updated policy.
