About
Aman Gupta is a PhD candidate in Architecture and Planning at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, India, and is nearing submission of his doctoral thesis. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from National Institute of Technology Patna, an MTech in Geospatial Engineering from IIT Roorkee, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Urban Planning and Development from IGNOU.
He was selected as a Visiting PhD Fellow in the School of Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. He has one year of professional experience in architectural practice and another year as a faculty member in the Department of Architecture and Planning at Parul University, Gujarat, before enrolling for a PhD. During his PhD, he served as a teaching assistant for courses such as Climate and Built Environment, Remote Sensing and GIS, and Architectural Design Studio.
His broader research interests lie at the intersection of geospatial technology, city analysis, and sustainable urban planning; they include land surface dynamics, urban heat island studies, blue-green infrastructure, outdoor thermal comfort, urban landscape and morphology, and land management. His doctoral work is based on mitigating urban heat stress in Kolkata through the strategic use of green and blue spaces.
Aman has published nine SCI-indexed journal papers (seven in Q1 and two in Q2; highest impact factor: 6.9), three Springer book chapters, and has presented his research at international platforms in Italy and Spain. He received the SERB International Travel Support Grant (DST, Govt. of India, 2024) and GAABESU Alumni Travel Grant (2023). He is a peer reviewer for over 25 Scopus/Web of Science indexed journals, having more than 70 reviews completed.
He is a member of the International Water Association (IWA) and the International Society of Biometeorology, and has collaborated and published technical papers with institutions including University of Edinburgh, UNSW Sydney, University of Florence, Hiroshima University, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, IIT Roorkee, RWTH Aachen University, Technical University of Munich, etc.
