To maintain a symbiosis, as with nature, to participate equally in give and take. Tatä, to follow the rules, is well regarded, while tatär, to disregard them, less so. Hushed voices even whisper of taräŋ, disobedience to the high council, treachery.
Ujäl Shore
To move move towards danger, adventure and profit, and away from phit, the inland volcanic mountains. Where raiding parties would depart ujäl by wooden ship to pillage, metal mercantile vessels now depart with elaborate Elven crafts and return with riches.

Laayta is the language of Elves from an island in the North Sea, closed to newcomers.
The Elf society is deeply immersed in nature, complete with ideas of give and take, and symbiosis. Increasingly, these ideas are corrupted, however, and used for control by the High Council and the Navy. Because of their early seafaring, the navy has always been the default military operation in Elf society.
The island used to be the homeland of the Fae. Possessed of a stronger magic, they instructed Elves in its use. Since the military takeover of society, however, the Elves have pushed the Fae out. Today's Elves speak words descended from Old Fae without knowing their origin.
