Vintage Co-LAB
Generating Interplay of Old and New
The proposal is a antique dealers community-based mixed-hub under coworking and coliving in a prime location of Johor Bahru. This hub would serve as an incubator platform for Commercial Business District and Heritage District, as well as a dynamic social connector of Pasar Karat (Bazaar JB). The main goal is to explore how integrated hubs can improve urban regeneration while pinpointing the current sociology of the locale. This project aims to retransform the location while adaptive reuse the heritage shophouse to interplay old and new altogether while enhancing the urban livability of the antique dealers. It aims to address the skill gap of these antique dealers in business strategy while promoting the cultural identity of the Johor Bahru. The concept of time tunnel is central to this project, as it aims to time lapse the past revival through site context, materiality, space planning and facade, creating a sense of continuity and seamless approach of a public realm along Jalan Wong Ah fook and Jalan Trus.

STORY
A drop of blood depicts the Johor Bahru’s vitality and a zombie hand emerging from the underground is the soon-to-be waves of Singaporean influx, draining local’s vitality. Embracing legacy to rejuvenate our cultural heritage through empowering local micro-entrepreneurs in the field of antiquities, will then preserve the local’s unique identity. "Transform challenges, ignite investments, cultivate inclusivity."
MANIFESTO
The project aims to propose an antiquary incubator, vital for rejuvenating Johor Bahru's City Center. With its rich cultural heritage and renowned flea market (Pasar Karat), the city presents a prime opportunity for micro-entrepreneurs to sell antique/treasure goods. However, this potential remains untapped, requiring revitalization. The Antiquary Incubator seeks to catalyze the city's potential by nurturing the ideas, skills, and talents, particularly in antiquities. Moreover, it holds promise for heritage tourism, given its proximity to heritage sites. Through support and stakeholder collaboration, the project endeavours to attract future investments, bolster the local economy, and preserve Johor Bahru's unique identity, countering social fragmentation spurred by brain drain.
