This course addressed major themes in art criticism and studio practice from 1970 to the present. Assignments incliuded mutli-media studio projects, classroom discussion, critique, readings, written assignments, a field trip to artist studios in NYC, and oral presentations. The majority of the class consisted of a self-directed, independent project.

Final Project: "Gardens"
On the left are the 120mm color film photographs taken for this project.
I chose photography as my medium for my final project, with added emphasis on the materiality of a photograph and installation. I used transparent pictorico paper to create three-dimensional illusions. I further manipulated my photographs with Adobe Photoshop as well as hand-cut deletions.

Gallery exhibition and show.
Advanced study of photography through the investigation of alternative processes. An emphasis was placed on the use of various historic and non-traditional processes, including pinhole cameras, cyanotype printing, digital negatives, gel transfering, and tricolor separation.

Art in the environment: Camouflage soldier.
Wire and fabric. Textiles were dyed by hand using botanicals. For this project, I used blue cabbage, elderberry, and spearmint dyes.

Cyanotypes using hand-coated paper and canvas; plants were collected locally and exposures were made in the sun.
