One of my favorite hobbies is woodworking. I primarily work with hand tools, and I have a passion for building bespoke tools, both as gifts and for my own use.
This dovetail saw was built in 2023 for a Secret Santa gift exchange. I used apple wood, a traditional wood choice used for building saw handles, and finished it with linseed oil. The plate and spine of the saw were repurposed from an antique gent's saw, which I reshaped and sharpened for immediate use. The handle was shaped by hand to perfectly fit the shape of the user's hand, and under sunlight, the wood has a beautiful, warm amber hue.
This saw was the first panel saw I ever built. the plate and hardware were from an old craftsman panel saw, and the wood was repurposed from discarded walnut floorboards. The handle is based on the panel saws from the Seaton tool chest, built by 18th century sawmaker Will Kenyon.
I designed and built this bench and vise based on the Moravian workbench and the St. Peter's Cross "crisscross" vise. I dimensioned the lumber and cut the joints by hand, and fabricated the crisscross from scrap steel at my university's makerspace. This workbench has been the core of my home shop since 2022.
