What I know with full certainty:
There is much I have yet to learn.
My ancestors are First Nations People from present day Mexico, and European from present day Spain and Portugal.
Colonization and Western religious indoctrination separated me from indigenous and ancestral wisdom and practices.
How I'm reclaiming, remembering, and reconnecting:
I am leaning into the wisdom of plants. Cacao has been my biggest ally.
I am re-learning history from a non-white perspective. I sit in ceremonies to learn from elders, community leaders and friends. Ceremonies teach me so much with just a few words.
I have accepted that as a result of being raised in colonial and capitalistic environments, I unknowingly reinforce colonial and capitalistic characteristics. I make a conscious effort to identify and change how those characteristics show up in me, in my interactions with society, and in my relationship with the world.
