Altrusa International

San Diego North County Coastal

Who We Are

Altrusa was the first classified service organization established by a woman, for women. Mamie L. Bass, whose brother was a Rotarian, garnered assistance from a member of her brother's Rotary Club to create a wonderful group of female business owners and professionals in the communities around Nashville, Tennessee.

Altrusa is a combination of the words "Altrusim", which is defined as the practice of having selfless concern for others, and "U.S.A." We celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Altrusa each April 11th.

Ask any long-term Altrusan and she will tell you that you do not just join Altrusa, but that you become an Altrusan. Of course, we now take men into our fold and we dub them Altrousers. Every member contributes greatly from their store of time, talent, and treasure to make our projects successful.

This Altrusa Club, Altrusa International San Diego North County Coastal, chartered on February 20, 2010. We are a "hands-on" service organization which provides various service projects for our North San Diego County residents.
