Locally organized, unofficial satellite conference of 2025 ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency (ACM FAccT).
Friday, June 20th, 2025, New York City
Recent world events have changed how many researchers in responsible technology, sociotechnical systems, and fairness, accountability, and transparency are thinking about international travel---especially those traveling on student visas.
In solidarity with researchers impacted by these changes, Emily Tseng, Meg Young, Ryland Shaw, Alayna Kennedy, Ashley Walker, Renee Shelby, and other members of the FAccT community are hosting an unofficial pre-conference gathering on Friday, June 20, 2025 in New York City. The event will be held in-person in Manhattan (location given to registered guests), and live-streamed.
This will be a single-track, one-day event featuring paper presentations and networking opportunities (including plenty of coffee breaks!). We will prioritize presentations from researchers whose work was accepted to FAccT, but who for funding or travel-related reasons will be unable to travel in-person to Athens, Greece. If space permits, we will also welcome accepted papers that will be presented in-person, as well as FAccT-related work more generally. Tutorials and CRAFTs will be accepted space permitting.
Everyone is welcome to attend; we especially encourage senior scholars to RSVP to support impacted students. Note that this event is organized independently from FAccT 2025. We do not have sponsorship for travel funds at this time.
Please RSVP to attend the NYC FAccT Gathering here. Note at this time we do not have additional presentation slots, sorry!
We would also welcome discussions with organizations interested in sponsorship opportunities. Sponsorship inquiries and further questions about the event can be directed to alt.facct.organizers at gmail dot com.
Warmly,
Emily Tseng, Meg Young, Ryland Shaw, Alayna Kennedy, Ashley Walker, and Renee Shelby on behalf of the organizing team
