The tuition is only $750.00 for each semester and is not due until the end of the semester.

Course Description: The Saint Peter’s University Alternate Route Program is a method for college graduates to become fully certified teachers without receiving a master’s degree. Saint Peter’s University’s undergraduate program in education provides pre-professional training for teaching on the elementary, middle school, and secondary school levels. The Saint Peter’s University Teacher Preparation Program is designed to prepare graduates to enter elementary and secondary classrooms as caring and professionally prepared teachers. Principles of Curriculum Development

Curriculum for 350-hour Course
#1. ASSESSMENT – Students will learn about various forms of assessment. Formative and summative assessments will be discussed as well as the role of authentic assessment. New Jersey state assessments will also be reviewed.
#2. EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY – In this course students will learn about a variety of technology tools available and the use and application of developmentally appropriate technology in the classroom.
#3. SPECIAL EDUCATION: MEETING THE NEEDS OF DIVERSE LEARNERS – In this course , students will learn about the IEP process, special education law (IDEA), school policy and meeting the needs of diverse learners through individual student education plans. Students will adapt curriculum in order to respond to cultural, linguistic and learning needs of all students.
#4. TEACHING READING IN THE K-12 CLASSROOM – In this course, students will learn about various forms of reading assessments as well as current methodologies in the teaching of reading in grades K – 12. Students will be provided with a clinical experience that incorporates best practices in reading language arts literacy.
#5. FUNDAMENTALS OF METHODOLOGY, CURRICULUM ANDASSESSMENT (K-12) – In this course, students will focus on implementing developmentally appropriate teaching practices, classroom management techniques, lesson plans and innovative methods of teaching.
#6. PSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS OF LEARNING – in this course, students will learn about growth and development from birth to adolescence and explore theories of development through the study of various psychologists such as Piaget, Vygotsky as well as linguistic and moral development.
#7. OVERVIEW OF THE TEACHING EXPERIENCE – In this course, students will gain an understanding of the educational ideologies that are the foundation of the American education system. An introduction to the Common Core State Standards and Professional Standards for Teachers will be provided. Students will participate in a pre-professional clinical experience that includes classroom management, planning and delivering of instruction and assessment.
#8. SCHOOL LAW – In this course, students will examine historical and contemporary legal issues affecting the organization and administration of schools in America. They will learn about the Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) law. Students will apply concrete, specific legal knowledge to the real issues and challenges they face every day in the classroom and in and around the school.
