Created according to the will of the late entrepreneur António de Sommer Champalimaud, the Foundation is primarily focused on advanced biomedical research and providing translational, interdisciplinary clinical care.
The foundation undertakes research in the fields of neuroscience and oncology at the modernistic Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, opened in 2011.
Lisbon airport
The closest airport is Lisbon International Airport. From there you can take the red metro line (Vermelha), direction São Sebastião, and change in Alameda for the green line (Verde), direction Cais do Sodré. In Cais do Sodré you will need to take the riverside train (Comboio) and get down in Algés. From there take Avenida Brasilia, south side, toward east. The Champalimaud building will be at a 10min walk distance, on your right.
Belém
From the Belém area we suggest walking, passing from the Monastero dos Jerónimos, Padrão dos Descobrimentos and Torre de Belém, some of the most iconic monuments of Portugal.
Alternatively, you can either take the 729, 15E or 79B near Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and get down at Largo da Princesa. From there, cross Avenida de Brasilia through the overpass Passadiço do Bom Sucesso to reach the Torre de Belém area and continue westbound to find the Champalimaud Foundation on your left.
