August 26, 2026, 6:30 pm Lake County Women’s Coalition, LCWC Event

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (ISBE, CEU’s available)
Warren Newport, Gurnee Public Library

Founded in 1943 as the All-American Girls Softball League, the organization quickly evolved to adopt rules closer to Major League Baseball, transitioning from underhand pitching to full overhand pitching as the game progressed. The original four teams included the Rockford Peaches, South Bend Blue Sox, Racine Belles, and Kenosha Comets. During its peak in 1948, the league drew over 900,000 fans.

Celebrate our 80th Anniversary of Alpha Nu

Welcome to a year of Alpha Nu Mystery and Intrigue! Our opening business meeting will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Alpha Nu, Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. This historical meeting will honor 80 years of sisterhood. It will include a scavenger hunt of intriguing, archived memorabilia.

It seems like each week there is a new warning about the latest, scams, telemarketer tricks and unwanted computer cyber-attacks. This meeting will help us better understand how we can make ourselves less vulnerable to these unwanted mysteries invading our identities and privacy. (ISBE, CEU’s available)

Once again Caitlin will grace our chapter with intriguing craft, skill and creativity. We will watch her demonstrate her appealing container foliage arrangements. We will have a raffle and Caitlin will offer additional containers for members to purchase.

True Crimes of Lake County, a presentation at the Dunn Museum: Program/Outing

This intriguing program provides insight into the infamous true crime stories of Lake County ranging from Roundout Train Robbery to the Fox Lake Massacre. This presentation will examine the historical evidence to focus on the mysteries of the who’s, what’s, and where’s of fascinating historic crimes. The Dunn Museum never fails its visitors with its stories of Lake County. (ISBE CEU’s available)

Travels to Vietnam and South Africa:

Alpha Nu member, Mary Ellen Hodapp will intrigue us with her worldly travels to Vietnam and South Africa. She will share her virtual tour of these areas of the world.

April 9, 2027: Alpha Nu Book Club, Book: Murder Takes a Vacation by Lippman,
Dale List's house

Our topic of Mystery and Intrigue will continue with a good ole fashion mystery novel. Gwen, our consummate librarian, has selected, Murder Takes a Vacation by Laura Lippman. “Highly acclaimed New York Times bestselling author Laura Lippman returns with an irresistible mystery featuring Muriel Blossom, a former private investigator and middle-aged widow whose vacation on a Parisian River cruise turns into a deadly international mystery…that only she can solve.” Goodreads, 2025.
