A. analyze, compose, and reflect on arguments in a variety of genres, considering the strategies, claims, evidence, and various mediums and technologies that are appropriate to the rhetorical situation
In an assignment that I’ve seen this SLO was in the movie review we had. In the movie review we had to use evidence that supported our claims. During this assignment we also give different arguments depending what type of movie review you're doing. If you’re giving a bad or even a good review you might open different arguments. Others might not think the same as you and will argue, but using the evidence you provided it will help your claims to be stronger. This assignment helped me to provide evidence to support my claims and not to just summarize, but also analyze.
B. describe the social nature of composing, particularly the role of discourse communities at the local, national, international level
In the assignment SWA 3 we were able to describe our own discourse community. The discourse community I chose for that assignment was the soccer community. This community is considered as an international level discourse community. Many nations have communities that have a great passion towards the soccer community. I could say it’s international because worldwide country’s gather their best players every 4 years and play the world cup. In the games you can see all seats filled by the countries playing against. In the SWA 3 assignment it allowed us to talk about a community that is big for us.
C. use multiple approaches for planning, researching, prewriting, composing, assessing, revising, editing, proofreading, collaborating, and incorporating feedback order to make your compositions stronger in various mediums and using multiple technologies
Throughout class we are able to plan and pre-write what movies/ ideas we had for our movie review. For every assignment I feel we prepare well during class, so when later we go to our assignment we have an idea and don't struggle a lot about what to find and write about. Having office hours and letting us work during class helps us and it also gives us feedback if we ask about it. I see writing as a process C, during class and we even have the option to go to office hours. During class we can work on the assignment and collaborate with the classmates to get ideas of what to do with your assignment.
D. improve your fluency in the dialect of Standardized Written American English at the level of the sentence, paragraph, and document
Grammar and Usage D, I see it during class because we have learned about it in class. We have reviewed the MLA format during class and in our assignments have used the MLA format. Also the activities we have during class helps improve with the standardized written American English dialect because being able to collaborate with classmates gives you an idea about how and what to write about . We also practice reflection in our assignments and we reflect how that assignment has helped us in our writing skills. We reflect on what we need a little more help and how we can fix some things. By reflecting we can apply new things for future assignments to help us better in our writing.
F. evaluate your development as a writer over the course of the semester and describe how composing in multiple genres and mediums using various technologies applied in other contexts to advance your goals
The student learning outcome that I've seen we have used in class is F. evaluate your development as a writer over the course of the semester and describe how composing in multiple genres and mediums using various technologies can be applied in other contexts to advance your goals. At the end of every assignment we have a reflection. Those reflections can help us writers evaluate our development over the course. In my reflections I try to include what I feel I need to work on more, what I have advanced on, what did I like about the assignment and if it did affect the my quality of writing. What I have noticed in my reflections is that every time I enjoy an assignment I'm able to expand on my writing and the words don't run out, but when I don't enjoy the assignment I attend to repeat myself, use words I don't really know, and start not making sense. When I also go back to my reflections I'm able to see what was I lacking on for example, on my reflections I have talked about how I don't manage my time and as a writer time management is key. Seeing I'm still lacking on my time management it motivated me to try and change it, but when I see what I have progressed I try to use the same plan with each of my assignments. Over the course of the semester we had some activities even though they were simple activities they really help a lot on our writing assignments. Participating in those assignments we realize that the smallest things most of the time it's what matters in writing.
