Submission Guide
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
We welcome papers up to 9 pages, excluding references and appendices.
All submissions should be formatted either in the NeurIPS 2023 (available here) or ICLR 2024 (available here) LaTeX formats.
All submissions will be made using OpenReview via the official submission portal.
For your camera-ready submissions to ALOE 2023, please utilize our specially provided style files. We offer two versions, adapted from the NeurIPS and ICLR templates. You are welcome to select the version that is most convenient for you.
IMPORTANT DATES
Submission deadline: 12:00 AM, October 7, 2023 (AoE)
Acceptance notification: October 27, 2023 (AoE)
Camera-ready submission deadline: December 14, 2023 (GMT)
ALOE 2023 workshop dates: December 15, 2023
REVIEW AND SELECTION
The review process will be double-blind.
All accepted papers will be presented as posters during the workshop.
Authors of select papers will present a 10-minute spotlight presentation.
At least one co-author of each accepted paper is expected to register for NeurIPS 2023 and attend the poster session.
While there will be no proceedings for ALOE 2023, authors can opt to have links to their accepted papers displayed on the workshop website.
FOCUS AREAS
We invite authors to submit papers focused on any facet of learning in open-ended environments. Papers can be up to 9 pages, excluding references and appendices, in the NeurIPS 2023 or ICLR 2024 LaTeX format. In particular, we encourage submissions related to open-endedness in the following areas:
Benchmarks for open-endedness
Scalable, open-ended environments and simulations
Self-improving generative models
Quality-diversity algorithms
Continual learning
Curriculum learning / unsupervised environment design
Emergent complexity
Self-supervised reinforcement learning
Multi-agent / population-based / co-evolutionary methods
Self-organizing systems
Real-world applications of open-ended learning systems
FAQ
Q: Is it OK to submit a paper that will also be submitted to ICLR 2024?
A: Yes.
Q: Is it OK to submit a paper that is under submission at the NeurIPS main conference?
A: Yes. However, if it is accepted into the NeurIPS main conference, it will not appear at the ALOE workshop.
Q: Will there be official archival proceedings?
A: No.
Q: Will the reviews be made available to the authors?
A: Yes.
Q: Should submitted papers be anonymized?
A: Yes! If accepted, we will ask for a de-anonymized version for the website.
Q: What time *precisely* is the final paper submission deadline?
A: October 7, 2023 at 12:00 AM AoE.
