I started my art journey when my grandmother began teaching me how to draw and paint when I was a young child. This passion only grew from there.
Fast forward 7 years, and my family bought our first camera when I was in elementary school. I was then able to take this new device and capture the world around me in creative ways.
From photography to printmaking to fibre arts to painting I have dabbled in many different art forms, and am currently focusing on mixed media where I am combining different methods and mediums together.
My art is influenced by my surrounding environment, both physically and socially. I love goats, going to the beach, sports, travelling, and chasing sunsets. I am also an ally and an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion for all.
Growing up in a small town in Ontario, I was exposed to a tight-knit community from an early age. I quickly discovered that I not only value having a strong sense of community, but I want to help create, maintain, and strengthen communities for others.
This mission and my work have taken me on different paths in my life; from summer camps, to student support services, to working in sexual violence support/education, to the present, where I am now a high school teacher and boarding house staff.
The other path my life has always travelled is within the arts. From as far back as I can remember I have always been interested in visual arts and creating new things. I have worked within many disciplines of art, painting, drawing, screen printing, relief printmaking, clay, sculpture, photography, digital media, videography, fibre arts, and more.
Being able to combine my two passions, community and arts, together every day while working with students and teaching them about art, media and design, is a privilege I am grateful for. Digital media is a growing field and I am just as excited about it as my students are. I am thrilled to be able to better my understanding and engage in professional development opportunities such as this ABQ!
