Because the Golan Heights had a rather distinct settlement history until it came under Israeli control during the 1967 Six-Day War, it is not included in the "All the Points" main maps. This map aims to track the key development decade-by-decade from the late nineteenth through early twenty-first centuries. In brief, as can be seen on these slides, in 1877 there were no permanent settlements on the plateau whatsoever. By May 1967, some 273 communities (Bedouin Arab, Christian Arab, Circassian, Turkmenian, Druze, and Alawite,) with a combined population of some 150,000 people made the Golan their home. Only five of these communities (four Druze and one Alawite) survived the war and were in the ensuing decades joined by 32 Jewish communities. The images below offer a snapshot of a more extensive map hopefully to come.
