Church Tower Repairs Set to Begin

After nearly five years of planning, consultation, surveys, and obtaining the necessary permissions and faculty approvals, I am delighted to report that work on the repair of the tower at All Saints’ Church will shortly be getting underway.

The church tower is an important landmark in our village and a treasured part of our local heritage. Over recent years, inspections have identified a number of repairs that are essential to ensure the long-term safety and preservation of the building. Bringing a project of this scale to fruition has involved considerable effort behind the scenes, and we are grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way.

Thanks to the generosity of parishioners, local residents, grant-making bodies, and fundraising events, we have already raised a substantial proportion of the funds needed. However, as many readers will appreciate, construction and specialist heritage repair costs have increased significantly since the original estimates were obtained several years ago. The latest quotations are considerably higher than those first received, creating a further funding challenge.

While we are pleased that the work can now proceed, we still need to raise additional funds to meet the increased cost and we will shortly be launching a new appeal for this purpose. Any support, whether through donations, fundraising ideas, or simply helping to spread the word, will be greatly appreciated.

We look forward to seeing the tower restored and preserved for future generations, and we will keep Village Views readers updated as the project progresses.

Churchwarden, All Saints’ Church

Tennis Tournament - Sunday 5th July

Dear lovely tennis players and supporters,

I would love to invite you to join us again for the bi-annual East Garston Tennis Tournament to be held on Sunday 5th July. The format will be the same as before, a sharp 10am start on various courts around East Garston, leading to quarters, semis around the village and the final at Manor Farm. Lunch will be served at Manor Farm from 12.30, and those just for lunch and spectating are very welcome and encouraged. The final last time was a nail biting finish.

Costs will be the same as before, with all proceeds to the East Garston Church Tower Appeal. £35 per player and £25 for lunch for non-players. Children are welcome and free under 12.

It is mixed doubles, ladies doubles, or senior with junior under 14. No mens doubles, sorry.

Closing date for entries is 29th June, and I will email you after that to let you know which court you are starting in.

All Saints' Church joins the Parish Giving Scheme

Our church has regular monthly outgoings and needs regular monthly income to cover these costs

Our main costs are Insurance, Utilities and Parish Share which covers clergy and administrative costs.

We would like to encourage church members to make regular contributions to support us. To simplify this process, the Parish Giving Scheme offers a simple service to accept regular contributions by bank Direct Debit. All donations received through this scheme are passed without fees to the parish church account. There are also optional opportunities to automatically add Gift Aid and automatically apply an annual cost of living increase to the contribution.
