As a proud member of the 10th batch of the SEA Teacher Student Exchange Project, I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in a vibrant cultural experience at the oldest, best, and most prestigious university in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. This assignment not only marked a significant milestone in my academic journey but also opened the door to a world of learning and discovery.
On June 7, 1962, based on the Decision of the Governor of the First Level Region of East Kalimantan No. 15/PPK/ KDH /1962, a higher education institution named Mulawarman Higher Education Institution was established in Samarinda. Then, on September 27, 1962, it was designated as the founding date of Mulawarman University (UNMUL), based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Science No. 130 of 1962 dated September 28, which was officially confirmed based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia I No. 65 dated April 23, 1963. Initially, Mulawarman University had 4 faculties: Statecraft and Commerce (in May 1966, changed to: Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and Faculty of Economics), Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Forestry, Faculty of Mining. Based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 66 dated September 7, 1982, the faculties at Mulawarman University became 5, namely:

Since the year 2000, Mulawarman University has expanded with additional faculties and study programs. SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda is a well-established public junior high school situated on KH. Ahmad Dahlan Street, Alley 2, in the heart of Samarinda. Thanks to its central location, the school has become a top choice for students and parents seeking high-quality education in a strategic and accessible area. With a strong reputation for academic excellence and character development, SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda continues to shape the future of young minds.
Since its establishment in 2005, SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda has grown into a dynamic learning institution that accommodates students across three grade levels. The school currently offers six classes for 7th grade, six classes for 8th grade, and four classes for 9th grade. Under the leadership of its dedicated principal, Burhan, M.Pd., the school remains committed to enhancing educational standards and student development programs. The school employs a dedicated team of 25 teachers, resulting in a student-teacher ratio of approximately 16.88, which allows for personalized attention and effective learning.

SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda implements two distinct curricula, tailored to different grade levels:
📌 Merdeka Curriculum (Grades 7 and 8) – A flexible and student-centered curriculum that focuses on competency-based learning. This approach emphasizes project-based activities, creativity, and problem-solving, allowing teachers to adapt their methods to best suit students' needs.
