ABOUT UNIVERSITAS MULAWARMAN (UNMUL)

As a proud member of the 10th batch of the SEA Teacher Student Exchange Project, I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in a vibrant cultural experience at the oldest, best, and most prestigious university in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. This assignment not only marked a significant milestone in my academic journey but also opened the door to a world of learning and discovery. 

I. History of UNMUL

On June 7, 1962, based on the Decision of the Governor of the First Level Region of East Kalimantan No. 15/PPK/ KDH /1962, a higher education institution named Mulawarman Higher Education Institution was established in Samarinda. Then, on September 27, 1962, it was designated as the founding date of Mulawarman University (UNMUL), based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Science No. 130 of 1962 dated September 28, which was officially confirmed based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia I No. 65 dated April 23, 1963. Initially, Mulawarman University had 4 faculties: Statecraft and Commerce (in May 1966, changed to: Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and Faculty of Economics), Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Forestry, Faculty of Mining. Based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 66 dated September 7, 1982, the faculties at Mulawarman University became 5, namely:

3. Faculty of Agriculture

4. Faculty of Forestry

5. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education

Since the year 2000, Mulawarman University has expanded with additional faculties and study programs. As of now, based on the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 26 of 2018 Concerning Amendments to the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Number 9 of 2015 About Organization and Work Procedure, Mulawarman University has 13 faculties with 92 study programs. The current faculties at Mulawarman University are:

II. University Accreditation

Currently, Mulawarman University has received an "A" Accreditation Rating from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) according to the Decree Number: 273/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-PPj/PT/VI/2022 dated June 14, 2022. 

III. The Vision of Mulawarman University

"Being an International Standard University by participating the nation development through the Education, Research, and Community Services based on the Natural Resources, in particular Humid Tropical Rain Forest and its environment”

The mission of statement is derived from the vision that has been established for the purposes of the organization to be implemented and managed properly.

IV. Mission of Mulawarman University 

• To produce qualified human resources, personality, and professional through the organization of higher education with international standards.

•  To produce  high quality and efficient research by promoting the principles of sustainability

•  To hold accountable management and independent university in accordance with the national standard.

SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda: A School of Excellence

SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda is a well-established public junior high school situated on KH. Ahmad Dahlan Street, Alley 2, in the heart of Samarinda. Thanks to its central location, the school has become a top choice for students and parents seeking high-quality education in a strategic and accessible area. With a strong reputation for academic excellence and character development, SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda continues to shape the future of young minds.

A Legacy of Growth and Achievement

Since its establishment in 2005, SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda has grown into a dynamic learning institution that accommodates students across three grade levels. The school currently offers six classes for 7th grade, six classes for 8th grade, and four classes for 9th grade. Under the leadership of its dedicated principal, Burhan, M.Pd., the school remains committed to enhancing educational standards and student development programs. The school employs a dedicated team of 25 teachers, resulting in a student-teacher ratio of approximately 16.88, which allows for personalized attention and effective learning.

Innovative Teaching System

SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda implements two distinct curricula, tailored to different grade levels:

📌 Merdeka Curriculum (Grades 7 and 8) – A flexible and student-centered curriculum that focuses on competency-based learning. This approach emphasizes project-based activities, creativity, and problem-solving, allowing teachers to adapt their methods to best suit students' needs.
📌 2013 Curriculum (Grade 9) – A structured, competency-based curriculum that balances knowledge, skills, and values. This curriculum prepares students for their future academic pursuits while reinforcing character education.

School Facilities
SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda provides a range of facilities to support the academic, extracurricular, and personal development of its students. These facilities include:

• Classrooms: The school has 16 classrooms, accommodating students across various grade levels.

• Library: A well-stocked library is available to support students' reading and research needs.

• Sports Facilities: The school provides facilities for physical education and sports activities, including areas for basketball, volleyball, and an open field.

• Multipurpose Hall: A hall is available for school events, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.

• Prayer Room: A designated space is provided for students and staff to perform religious activities.

• Health Clinic: The school offers basic medical assistance and first aid to ensure student well-being.
