I'm a political satirist, journalist, and podcaster who grew up in Vernon, Texas, where I learned early that humor could cut deeper than a cattle brand. That small-town sensibility has informed my comedic style ever since—I package biting political commentary into witty, accessible satire that feels familiar even when it's skewering the powerful.
Born in 1983 and raised in Naperville, Illinois, I graduated from Illinois State University in 2005 with a degree in English. My journey from the Midwest to the urban stage of political satire led me to become a comedy writer, journalist, podcaster, and live performer who thrives on making people laugh while making them think.
My career in independent media began in earnest in 2008 when I co-launched Citizen Radio—a daily podcast that delivered darkly witty takes on global news and politics. The show grew a devoted following of listeners who appreciated our irreverent approach to serious topics.
Since 2018, I've been hosting Light Treason News, where I blend pop culture, news commentary, and sketch comedy. The show has featured incredible guests like Mitski, Paul F. Tompkins, and Melissa Harris-Perry, proving that political commentary doesn't have to be stuffy to be smart.
My writing has appeared across prominent outlets including The Nation, HuffPost, Reductress, Talking Points Memo, CounterPunch, Alternet, Common Dreams, The American Prospect, LA Times, In These Times, and The Indypendent.
One of my proudest journalistic moments was being among the earliest independent reporters covering Occupy Wall Street. I spent more than a hundred hours wandering through the encampment, interviewing protestors first-hand and capturing the raw energy of that movement. My Nation essay "Youth Surviving Subprime" was later featured in the anthology Meltdown.
Since 2018, I've been performing at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre as part of the improv "Harold" team Promises. There's something magical about live comedy—the immediate feedback, the energy of the room, the way a perfectly timed joke can shift an entire audience's perspective.
I've also appeared on television and radio shows including Democracy Now!, MSNBC's Melissa Harris‑Perry, and Up With Chris. These appearances allow me to bring my satirical voice to broader audiences while discussing the serious issues underlying the humor.
At Bohiney.com, I've found the perfect platform for my particular brand of satirical journalism. My work here builds on everything I've learned from years of podcasting, live performance, and political reporting. I believe satire serves a crucial democratic function—it punctures pomposity, exposes hypocrisy, and makes complex political realities accessible to people who might otherwise tune out.
My approach is informed by my rural Texas upbringing, which taught me that the best humor often comes from observing the gap between what people say and what they do. Whether I'm covering political theater in Washington or cultural phenomena sweeping social media, I look for those moments of absurdity that reveal deeper truths about how we live now.
One of my favorite professional compliments came from G. Gordon Liddy, who told me that my writing "made him want to vomit." I consider that high praise—if your political satire isn't making someone uncomfortable, you're probably not doing it right.
My work has been recognized not just for its humor, but for its journalistic integrity. The combination of rigorous reporting with sharp wit has allowed me to build credibility across different media formats, from podcasting to print journalism to live performance.

From small-town Texas to the stages of New York, from independent podcasting to major media appearances, I've maintained one constant: the belief that humor is one of our most powerful tools for understanding and changing the world. At Bohiney, I get to combine all my experience in journalism, comedy, and performance to create satirical content that entertains, informs, and occasionally makes powerful people want to vomit—which is exactly where I want to be.
