Alligator Amblers Chapter - Charlotte, Lee, and Collier Counties
The Florida Trail Association (FTA) develops, maintains, protects, and promotes a network of hiking trails throughout the state including the 1500 mile Florida National Scenic Trail (commonly referred to as the Florida Trail).
The Alligator Amblers became a fully chartered chapter of the Florida Trail Association in 2002. Supporting the FTA's goals, our chapter has been instrumental assisting local, county, and state agencies establishing new trail systems in the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park and Hickey's Creek Mitigation Park.
We are responsible for maintaining a section of the Florida Trail that takes hikers through one of the state's most rugged places to hike in the Big Cypress National Preserve and the Collier Seminole Hiking Trail at Collier Seminole State Park.
Maintaining hiking trails for all to enjoy is hard but rewarding work. Participants can payback those who selflessly volunteered their time to provide the hiking opportunities we currently enjoy. Trail maintenance includes keeping the ever growing flora at bay, removing fallen trees, painting trail markers (blazes), and building foot bridges. Let us know if you are interested in some of the most rewarding hard work you'll ever do.
