meet the artist

Allie Jane Allen is an emerging artist based in Virginia. She graduated summa cum laude with a BFA in Studio Art, a BA in Art History, and a minor in Comparative Philosophy from Randolph College in 2025. During her undergraduate career, Allen interned with the National Gallery of Art in London’s Library and Archive Research Centre and completed independent research in Paris, France, funded by the College’s RISE Grant. She volunteered at the Maier Museum of Art, the Academy Center of the Arts, and Riverviews Artspace, where she monitored galleries, helped with exhibition installation and deinstallation, and gained experience in art handling and packing. 

The human figure is the foundation and fixation of my practice. Working primarily in graphite, I carefully construct figures through crosshatching and shading. I am interested in how the figure acts as evidence of one's experiences and how, through careful artistic construction, they can reflect ephemerality and emotional, physical, and personal struggle, while remaining atemporal. I aim to have my figures stylistically reflect academic traditions while engaging in and being contextualized by contemporary political and social challenges, ultimately resituating the nude figure in the artistic zeitgeist. 

Alongside my work in graphite, I enjoy working with oil paint and documentary and portrait photography.
